Games Workshop have added another big book for Age of Sigmar which collects together everything you'd need to know about the Grand Alliance: Death faction within their new narrative...

"Stirring uneasily within their graves, the dead are forced to submit to the dark command of Nagash, Supreme Lord of the Undead. Shambling forms guided by the will of black-hearted necromancers and ever-thirsting vampires, the skeletons, spirits and zombies of this Grand Alliance stagger on to the battlefields of the mortal realms in huge numbers, reaping a grim harvest and spreading death wherever their shadows fall.

Even should the enemies of Death score a powerful victory over Nagash, it is a mere setback - for what is a thousand years of exile and slumber to one who can never truly die?"

Inside this book you get information about the faction and it's background as well as a massive collection of Warscrolls for the various units which will be taking to the field in support of Nagash.

The artwork looks great which is one of the big things that I think draws people into buying these tomes. Of course all of the actual Warscrolls are available online for free to download but if you prefer the physical side of things then this could be a good buy for Undead fans.

Useful for quick reference during games, and a nice looking book with some strong artwork and a bit more AoS era Undead fluff. Sadly, the Tomb Kings are gone (possibly for good, possibly not), but the former Vampire Counts units that make up the Grand Alliance seem to work well and convey the nature of the faction rather well in the new rules. I’m not convinced Tomb Kings have gone for some strange reason. Over half the TK range was naughty resin – the plastics were on square bases. There’s no reason why GW can’t – in 5 years time – bring the Tomb Kings back (they merely need to keep the molds surely / or the CAD program). They make a nice cash grab with their “Last chance to buy” but that doesn’t mean we’ll never see some of those plastic kits again – merely on round bases… Also i clearly like how AoS isn’t meant to be a skirmish game now… Read more »

I hope we will see Tomb Kings again too someday @ Poosh. As for AoS being a skirmish game, a person can play that way if they like, but there is nothing in the rules actually stopping you from arranging your models in ranks and even putting them in a movement tray. You can also use square bases if you like since the round one’s aren’t essential, and have old school close ranks of the type that were ubiquitous in Old Hammer. Indeed close, ranked up formations are often advantageous for certain types of unit, especially those with longer melee… Read more »

It doesn’t surprise me that the Tomb Kings have been given the Axe. So far they haven’t been in any of their printed publications, along with Empire, Bretonnia,the Elves and the Dwarves.

Tomb Kings will not be back. Instead we’ll get one army of Undeath that includes anything undead. Seems the Vampire Counts line along with the End Times stuff is the chosen aesthetic, so future releases will follow that look.

Fyreslayers are an off-shoot of dwarfs and have their own aesthetic, so there isn’t a reason to believe that an off-shoot of the Undead line with a very different aesthetic to the main range, couldn’t happen at some point down the line. I think that that was supposed to be one of the advantages of AoS; that much smaller army ranges could be released relatively quickly. The Tomb Kings suffered from having core troops which were very outdated model-wise and not the easiest models to glue. I don’t for a second think the new comedy “Fyreslayers” will sell anywhere near as much as the Tomb Kings.

I won’t be surprised if 5 years from now they scrap Age of Sigmar and ret-con the Old World back into existence especially when they see how popular Total War Warhammer is.

To add insult to injury various youtube videos describing the fluff of the original warhammer worlds (off the back of Total War) are getting 50,000 – 70,000 hits recently.
