Gates Of Antares Art & Freeborn Starter Sets Looking Great

Warlord Games have shown off the amazing Cover Art for Beyond the Gates of Antares. As the rulebook gets finalised they have also looked to a new faction, the Freeborn that are also going to be available over this weekend.
Jon Cave is the artist responsible for the piece you see above. If you like the look of the artwork then you can actually download it as a full on wallpaper over on the link above.
Freeborn Soldiers
As well as the artwork there are some actual models too. This time the focus is on the Freeborn who not only get their own Starter Set but also a few different sets including the Command Squad and Vardanari...
These are probably some of the best looking models in the Gates of Antares range so far. I really like their regular troopers and the Command Squad looks brilliant too. I could see this being a very popular army for people to pick up and I would warrant that they would pop up in whatever two player starter set Warlord do.

I didn’t like these at first but your mention of Dune makes me think a less gaudy paint scheme on them would look good.

First models for this game that have piqued my interest.
Agreed, same here. This reminds me a bit of the Maelstroms Edge humans, but these guys have a very Atlantian feel to them with a good mix of Dark Eldar.
These will be added to my growing forces at some point for sure 🙂 As rollsk1 pointed out they will probably end up painted in a very Dune like paint scheme.
I’m sold. Even if I don’t get into the game I’m still picking up that command squad.
Looks suspiciously like the old 40K “Crimson Fists Last Stand” artwork in its composition.

Like me! I haven’t played 40K in ages, and although there are several factors as to why, one of them is definitely the lack of interest in struggling with rules that I find dull and annoying. I’m really looking forward to using Gates of Antares rules with my 40K miniatures. No doubt Warlord are hoping that people like me will get into their miniatures lines too. I’m hoping that they don’t produce miniatures that are much more appealing than the current lot and/or much cheaper, as I could do without another game system to support! As @arteppepp also commented, this looks a LOT like the original 40K Rogue Trader cover. That’s a good thing of course!
Not convinced on the colour scheme, it makes it look like the white balance is off in the pics.
Cool artwork tho.
I really loved the Algoryn concept art and early WIP pics but when I saw the release versions I was rather disappointed. However now that I have several squads myself I can see the detail and quality of the sculpture and casting are excellent. In my opinion the official painted armies are not doing the figures justice.

Getting better, but the faces and those silly guns still kinda ruin the effect. But we’re getting there- the style is past 1995 and firmly in 1998 when the first dark eldar were released.
Think these are some of the most promising minis in the range so far.
And that artwork is fantastic!
These seem posed ok compared to some of the other races .. like that its trying to look like fairly realistic sci-fi with the tech being used.
Very nice models for the Freeborn there. From the thread, it seems clear that a lot of people intend to go for a more Fremen look for this faction rather than the blue colour scheme shown here, and I must admit that I would count myself amongst them.
And it is undeniably true that the artwork shown here is a clear homage to a certain piece of classic Rogue Trader era art and, as maledrakh says, that is very much a calculated move on the part of Warlord to appeal to longstanding 40K gamers.
These would be the minis that could get me into Gates of Antares. They look really nice!
