Building on the extensive period of History that Black Powder covers, Warlord Games has put together a new Starter Army for you. You can now pick up a Malborough's Wars 1701-1714 Army packed with models.

Marlborough Wars Starter Army

Here's some background for those who are not up to speed on this war (including me)...

"Fought between 1701 and 1714, the War of the Spanish Succession began with a dispute between King Louis XIV of France and Emperor Leopold I of Austria about who should inherit the vacant throne of Spain.

Before long a ‘Grand Alliance’ of countries, including the British, Dutch and some German states had entered the war to back the Austrians and oppose the ambitions of King Louis, the ‘Sun King’.

This was one of the first truly global conflicts, being fought in Spain, Italy, Germany, the Low Countries and overseas in the New World, and involved all the major European powers of the day."

All caught up? Well, here you can check out some of the models included in the set starting with the Infantry.

Infantry

As well as these fine fellows you also get some dashing Cavalry which can support the main core of your army with a choice charge or two.

Cavalry

It wouldn't be Black Powder with some proper black powder weapons now would it either. So, you also have the bits to make three Cannons and three Mounted Officers.

If you were looking to jump into the era then this looks like a good place to start. All you'd need to do is have another person pick up a different set and you'd be set. I particularly liked the look of the infantry although it would be nice to get more poses out them if possible.

What do you think?
