Check Out Blizzard’s Upcoming Video Game CCG Hearthstone

It's a rare occurrence that we take a look at video games on Beasts of War, but when I saw this little preview of Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft by Blizzard Entertainment, makers of World of Warcraft I was certainly intrigued.
Most people will be familiar with Warcraft, either from its Real Time Strategy days or in its latest iteration as World of Warcraft. Here Blizzard are hoping to take a light hearted look at this 'verse in a Collectable Card Game for PC, Mac and later iOS.
As you can see from the video at the top of the page and these screenshots here it does look a little bit like Magic the Gathering with a distinct World of Warcraft flavour. We don't know much about the rules but you'd hope it lives up to the standards of Blizzard.
The game will be F2P (Free to Play) but since it's a collectable card game you can imagine there will be random booster pack buys with real world money down the line for people heavily invested in the game.
While I personally am a fan of Living Card Games where you know what you're getting some people just can't get enough of this format.
With the Warcraft brand name behind it and some flashy graphics it does look like it could be a success. Maybe we'll even see Fantasy Flight Games pick this up and make a physical version of it too?

No Android nor Linux version, if they wanted to be accesible that’s not the way to do it ( hell is just a simple game with cool animations, they could have done it using unity which is crosseverything! ) Leaving the OS rant aside i like the fact that you earn card by each battle and the forge mode, it seems like a fun 30 min game to play while you need to refresh your head or wait for something. With regards monetizing it: they’re going to be selling “booster packs” of random cards, same as with a normal real-world TCG.
Yes, they also say you can ‘earn’ cards by playing, or through the crafting system, but I wouldn’t expect either to be particularly efficient at getting you the cards you want/need given that their income stream depends on you buying cards.
If you really want to play Netrunner online you can if you download OCTGN. There are even video tutorials for setting it up if you google for them.

Looks like fun. The animation is right in line with what Blizzard does. Being made in house, I expect a high production value. The theme is very cool too, sort of a neat tie in to WoW – you finish questing, burn your hearthstone and then sit down at the inn and play some Hearthstone against another player. Maybe they’ll put a Hearthstone mini-game in WoW… Anywho – without knowing how the game itself plays, everything is pretty superficial right now. So how well is WoW doing these days anyway? I mean, is the above any indication?
As a fan of Kingdom Rush, Angry Birds and Where’s My Water, I can see this being another mighty addictive purchase for my iPad…

Wow is doing ok, in terms of game play latest expansion is probably one of the best. Numbers are dropping one of the biggest issues is its still wow and it over 8 years old and that is showing.
For me this is a must-play just to see how Blizzard handled the user interface. Only a very few high quality tabletop/computer game crossovers have been released so far, so seeing how the big dogs handle it will probably set the standard for the next few years at least.
