Community Spotlight: Confrontation Wulfen, Deep Space Scourge & Sisters Of Silence!

April 13, 2018 by crew

We’re diving into some painting from you wonderful folks that popped up in the Hobby & Painting Forum this week. Make sure to share your own work with us and you could get yourself a Golden Button!

We have some awesome projects to check out this time so make sure to let us know what you think of the pieces in the comments below.

Rackham Wolfen by doctorether

We’re starting things off today with a look at these amazing Wulfen painted by doctorether who some of you will know as Chris Handley who heralds from Darker Days Radio and plays our Kingdom Death: Monster campaign with us!

The work on these models is astounding and shows off the amazing brush skills of Chris. He has done some amazing work on their skin tones and the way the muscles have been defined makes them stand out so well on the tabletop.

You can see that the same methods have been applied the different models and when you look to even this one in a stranger pink/purple, the effect works very well. I particularly liked the fur on this one.

This is all without talking about the work that has gone into the weapons to give them that brilliant finish. I love the scoring and battle damage to the blades and the fact that they are shaded!

It’s hard to not be bowled over by the work of Chris on these models and hopefully we’ll see more of his work on the Rackham Confrontation range as things progress. He has a few others in the pipeline it seems and we can’t wait to see how they look when finished.

With the new Confrontation Classic Kickstarter just around the corner maybe it’s time to ask for some tips from Chris and see what we can get done ourselves!

Scourge Starter Fleet by seldon9

The next models we’re going to look at are another masterclass in how to make things look awesome. seldon9 has some some amazing work in these Scourge ships from Dropfleet Commander that make up his Starter Fleet.

Scourge Starter Fleet #1 by seldon9

The Scourge have an organic feel to their designs and that has been shown here across the hulls of these different vessels. You could almost imagine the biolumiencent lights flickering along their ridges from front to back, blinking away in the darkness of space.

You can see it even more on the backs of the ships here. I have to say, when I first looked at Dropfleet Commander I thought that my fleet of choice would have been PHR, but the Scourge are just so much more fun to paint!

Sisters Of Silence by dawfydd

Last but not least we look at the work of dawfydd here who has painted up this squad of Sisters Of Silence. All of it was done in one day which is awesome to see – getting an entire squad ready for the tabletop in one go.

I really liked the almost burnished bronze look for the armour and the royal purple cloaks stand out nicely against it. Combine that with the fur rims and the pale skin and you have some awesome models which would stand up very well indeed to close inspection.

If I was to offer a word of advice it would be to maybe add a heavier shade to the fur on the cloaks and then bring it back up with a highlight as well, just to give it a bit more definition. I have my own Sisters of Silence and they don’t look half as good as these!
