Community Spotlight: Dad’s Army, Five Hobbity Armies & A Flock Of Acolytes

June 30, 2017 by crew

We stop in this week, as it’s Hobby Night Live too, and talk about some of the great projects you’ve been working on this week in the Hobby & Painting Forum.

Without further ado let’s jump in and see what you’ve been up to on all manner of different scales.

Dad’s Army by gremlin

At the head of this week’s spotlight we have gremlin who has been working on some soldiers for Operation Sea Lion but they’ve of the older generation! See what you make of Dad’s Army in both their civilian attire…

…and dressed up ready for a fight much like from the outro sequence to the TV show.

These models are great fun and it’s nice to see them being painted up for a challenge to the invading Germans. Maybe they’ll be able to come up with some crackpot scheme that might just work against them?

The basing has come together well on these and, much like in previous weeks, it’s good to see it framing and helping the model rather than taking over. Also, we like the detail worked into the civilian clothing in particular.

Hopefully, this lot perform admirably on the tabletop for you gremlin!

Battle Of Five Armies by dogma2097

Next up we’re turning our attention to a project which has been long in the making but finally came to fruition. See what you make of dogma2097′s work on his Battle Of Five Armies set featuring some very tiny Middle-Earth figures!

Both the armies for the force of Evil and the Goblins have been painted alongside the forces of Good combining the Elves of Mirkwood, the Dwarves of Erebor and the Iron Hills and of course the Men Of Laketown.

Another of the great things that was done to make this army pop, as well as some furiously detailed painting as you can see, is the background and staging on the board which helps bring both armies to life. It even looks good when you set up a bit of a battle scene.

It would be awesome if we could get some close-up shots of the action like this in more detail, showing off the characters in particular for example. Either way though, as you can see, when they are ranked up and ready for battle the painting has come together nicely.

This is one of those games Ben in particular wishes he hadn’t missed out on. Who knows, maybe we’ll see an anniversary version of it later down the line from Games Workshop?

Tzeentch Karic Acolytes by doctorether

Last but not least we look at some more of the stunning work by doctorether and friend of the show, Chris. He has been painting up some amazing Tzeentch Karic Acolytes for him to use in Age Of Sigmar skirmish and they have been finished off with his usual flourish.

As well as the clean and simple basing we’re drawn to the purple skin and how that has just popped on the models. Combine that with the glittering gold and blue that is synonymous with Tzeentch and you have some amazing models, just waiting for an adventure.

The thing that grabbed us in particular about these is that they really delve into the magical and eldritch nature of these Tzeentchian followers. While it sticks very much to the overall ‘scheme’ for the regular Acolytes by Games Workshop it deviates to give them a bit more of a mysterious and darker feel.
