Titan Forge have unveiled the latest unit that will be joining the ranks of their upcoming Japanese themed fantasy army. This time we get the support of the heavy cavalry, but with a slight difference in their choice of mounts.

Samurai Heavy Cavalry

These samurai have somehow got themselves komainu as their mounts. The legendary guardian lion-dogs of Japanese mythology traditionally serve as the guardians to shrines and temples, with two statues usually being found at the entrance. They can be fearsome creatures, keeping evil spirits at bay, while ensuring good ones remain.

Titan Forge have bulked up their komainu, making them look all the more animalistic than their traditional depictions. I am still a bit annoyed that it does seem we're getting only two distinct sculpts again, although in this case it makes sense for the komainu, as they always appear in identical pairs, one with its mouth open and the other with its mouth closed.

Are you getting excited for Titan Forge's upcoming Kickstarter?
