Aethelstan was one hell of a general. He managed to conquer the Scots and pushed the Vikings out of England. Even though he wasn’t able to hold York indefinitely he still dealt them a heavy blow and was well regarded across Britain and Europe.
The model pack comes with Aethelstan holding his spear aloft and a Bannerman flying his colours. I love that ruined shield transfer (looks like a transfer?) the Bannerman has too, a great addition. If you put these two on a larger base and gave him a few more retainers you’d have an ace Warlord.
From fighting Kings to a fighting Priest instead. See what you think of the Christian Warrior Priest who has probably seen far too many of his own monastic buildings burned to the ground and is looking for a bit of vengeance.
I think that he would be great leading a bunch of angry monks into battle during a scenario where Vikings are raiding looking for plunder.
You also always need more men for the shieldwall and that’s where the Late Saxon Thegns come in. These soldiers are more heavily armed and armoured than the peasants of the land who would be called to fight.
Well trained and loyal to their Lords these soldiers would have been front and centre in the shieldwall ready to repel the enemy with spears bristling out in front.
What will you be picking up?
