Adam West and Burt Ward, the stars of the classic 1960s Batman TV series, announced at last weekend’s Mad Monster Party in Charlotte that they would once again become the dynamic duo in a special 50th anniversary animated movie!
The 1960s Batman TV show first broadcast on January 12th 1966 and will be reaching its 50th anniversary next year. The show, while incredibly campy and silly, was the first portrayal of the Dark Knight on television, introducing many to the comics’ characters and has since gained a cult following for its fun plots, fights and gags.
This new animated film will reportedly appear next year to mark the anniversary. Featuring the voices of the original Caped Crusaders, the movie will be a full 90 minute piece, hopefully recapturing something of the charm of the original 60s show.
Not much more than this has been revealed yet, but I think that it is safe to say that this will be exciting news for any long time fans of the show. The Dark Knight has been so unrelentingly… well dark lately, that it will be fun to look back at a time where it wasn’t unknown for him to break out into dance.
