Hi guys, I have some ideas for gaming pieces/cards that I might create in Photoshop and print out, and would like to know what you guys think about gaming accessories that you might print out yourself and any difficulties you may have had in the past so I can avoid those pitfalls myself :P

Some things I’d like to know are:
What shapes are too difficult and a pain in the arse to cut out (irregular shapes, circles etc) and which are easier (especially if you have lots to cut out)?

Which paper/card types are suitable for printing and sticking them onto?

Would you be likely to glue them onto a sheet of card first and then cut them out (which I think would make sense)?

And lastly, how would you make them more durable? Would you coat them in PVA glue if printed on suitable card paper first-have you tried that already, if so what happened?

Thanks for reading, I do have a fair idea of what I might do, but I hope to get some useful comments, and ideas from this, cheers! :)

PVA Coating will cause them to warp.

Laminating them is an option and you get a nice matt lamination option now which is very professional looking.

Then i would stick to card or foamboard.

If you can afford it there are card cutting machines that will knock out complicated shapes to your hearts content! :D
If I can remember what they are called I will pop up a linky.
AFAIK they are primarily aimed at craft hobbyists for making hand made cards, but can be programmed from your computer to cut out your CAD images.

There is an interesting Necromunda terrain project on Dakka that employed a Cricut

It’ll be interesting to see if the price of 3D printers drop to the point where they become affordable to individuals or even clubs, then the sky’s the limit

Yeah, PVA would sod it all up, I guess I was thinking of using pva to seal in flock… doh lol.

Laminating eh? I’ve seen some laminating machines in Staples near me, might pop down there this week and a decent priced one!

    Cheers Warren ;)

Wicked link chibi, and I found some die-cutters on amazon to check out :D

Can’t afford a 3D printer yet lol. That would a dream though. Imagine just ordering a mini, downloading the file and printing it out-mini’s would never be out of stock! But, it’s just a dream lol.

Cheers guys, I’ll check out the die-cutting and laminating stuff.
    Al :)
