I’m interested to see how many Nomad players there are on BoW, and how much that leaps when we get to the Nomad intro episode. :)

Dirty sneaky tricks, it’s the only way to be sure!

Just looking at the all the minis, they are my favorite so far. Probably going to pick up 2 or 3 factions anyway so friends don’t have an excuse not to play. ;)
Any details you want to enlighten me with to cement Nomads as my favorites?

Not only are they the sneakiest faction, they get the coolest robots. :)

They are the most varied faction, combining the cyberpunk troops from Bakunin to the military oriented troops of Coeridor and we can only guess what Tunguska and possibly black hand will bring on the table.

This was the first army for me, when I started playing a couple of years ago, and I am happy to say I still enjoy playing it. I was initially drawn to the high-tech info warfare, and now I’m looking at expanding into Bakunin for the bio-mods.

i’m not really sure if I’ve understood the nomads backstory yet, but from what i see of the miniatures and the fact that they seem to include arty / cyberpunky types with access to strong hackers, I think I might try this as my first army. However I’m now having second thoughts after reading the “dirty nomad tactic”….I’m not a fan of playing cheesy tactics in wargames.

One question about hackers: the model pictures show them with arms outstretched, and sometimes there is this photoshopped circle around their fist, what’s that all about?

I’m probably wrong about everything, all I know about infinity is what i’ve learnt from watching the youtube videos and reading some of the rules. I’m still rather confused about most of it.

I’m also a bit worried about the d20 system. With such few models, and rolls on a d20 (rather than several D6) it seems that the probability distribution will be quite flat, and hence could lead to some very luck driven games. Am I wrong?

Arty/cyberpunky/hacker/outcasts who in some cases are descendants of a prison ship and a load of abandoned refugees, hence the fierce independence. Have you watched http://www.beastsofwar.com/infinity/nomads-infinity-week-discussion/ yet?

The circle is a head-up display, all the Infinity Hacker models come with an acetate sheet with several printed on. It’s not as pretty as the Photoshop version but they look OK on the table:

D20s & luck – yes, you can end up with luck-driven games but less often than you might think – a good tactical player will beat a ‘lucky’ player almost all the time.

Finally, the Dirty Nomad Combo. Yes, it’s nasty and you don’t want to inflict it on a new player as it has a good chance of putting them off the game. However it’s not specific to Nomads, all factions but Ariadna (not high-tech enough to have guided ammo) can do it, Nomads just do it marginally better and they tend to be taking those kinds of troops anyway.

    GML Spam is balanced by:
It’s a very Order-intensive strategy, you’ll be lucky to designate and hit two models a turn.
Taking a hacker, they can hack the missiles on the way to the target.
EVO Repeaters are a special (and cheap) type of Remote that makes it almost impossible to keep hitting a marked target.
The models to drive the combo will usually make up a minimum of half the points in the list and is dependant on the GML Remote and the Hacker Plus being alive – drop a Combat Jump model into your opponent’s deployment zone to assassinate one of those two models and the whole thing breaks down.
Ariadna have problems in that they have no Hackers for defence, on the other hand their troops are so cheap that gML Spam just won’t be able to kill enough of them quickly enough. Plus sending in a Werewolf will mess up the enemy as they’re unhackable and so tough that they can’t tell the difference between being shot with a rifle and shot with a missile. :)

    Hope that helps.

The designers have gone a great length to produce a balanced system that there is no cheese, a tactic like Nomads Guided Missile Launcher Spam, nicknamed Nomads dirty combo is a novice tactic, and one easily countered once you grasp how it works, its an order intense attack that requires many fragile components of it to remain relatively stationary and if any part of the chain brakes it is useless, plus any hacker can defend against it.

I would not worry about the D20 while luck exists as it does with every game were dice or other randomiser exist In Infinity because of the face to face roll the ARO mechanism and the modifiers existing the luck is less of an issue.

On a personal perspective the many dice, better representation of the average is false, I would accept it only if both sides rolled approximately the same amount of dice.

Thanks for the replies. Ah yes it’s much clearer from that photo what’s going on around his hand. Thanks.

I think I will give Nomads a go then, yes I watched the videos where Gutier is explaining the backgrounds, I think from a fluff perspective Nomads appeal to me and that’s usually how I choose which army to play.

Yes I can see that the face to face mechanic is also an equalizer of sorts, I hadn’t thought of it that way. Quite nice to get a shot back rather than just sitting there waiting to be obliterated.

The models really are something special. I think they will be challenging to paint, but I’m up for a challenge :)

And I’m very glad to hear there is no cheese. Cheese leads to very boring games.

The other challenge will be to get some decent terrain. I will probably look for ready made, as my time / skills are quite limited, but I don’t mind spending a bit of money on the terrain.

While I do wait for ready made terrain (Micro art studios have something coming soon), I play in TOPO’s papercraft terrain, looks great and is quite cheap to make (the terrain is free you only add print cost).

    nice link, thank you!

I see some of those crates were used in some of the infinity publicity shots.

Kind of a noob question. is it possible to field a good number of those Robots above? Like say 4? They look amazing!

    Indeed that is the case.

While Nomads are a faction that can field many remotes, their biggest field allowance for a particular remote is two at best, they still can field a maximum of 13 remotes of different types.
