Kings of War General Discussion
As seems to always be the case when I play my regular opponent of war games, we came across something that we weren’t sure about in our very first game… Any help would be appreciated!
So, I flew over an enemy unit with my Wraiths and just got over them (1″ away on the opposite side) but haven’t used my single extra “change facing” order yet, so I was going to turn them 180 so I can dark surge them into the opposing unit’s rear. However, since all units pivot around their centre, the unit of wraiths cannot turn 180 without bumping into the unit. What happens?
1. They can turn 180. 1a. Units of wraths have fly, so they can turn and clip units without penelty, as long as they end up in open space 1b. any unit can turn about their centre and clip units as long as they end up in open space (in real turns each person just turns around on the spot).
2. They can’t make the move as they would clip the opposing unit, which is not allowed.
I think it is 1a, with non-fly units being 2, but then this has a big impact on units which are wider than they are deep. As an example, the unit I would have dark surged into (I decided not to do it in the end as I was unsure of the rules) was an ax horde; in order to turn they would have had to advance, turning 90 degrees in their next turn (opening them up for a flank attack) aince they would clip my unit if they turned on the spot, and then turned 90 degrees in the turn after that.
Thoughts?
Thanks
Pivoting is one of the areas that needs a bit of clarification in the rules. For example, following the rules strictly would mean that, if you get charged in the flank you can’t turn to face your opponent. (A unit that charges you moves back 1″ after combat. You can’t approach closer than 1″ to an enemy unit except when charging. If edges of two units are parallel and 1″ apart, any pivot around the center immediately brings part of the unit closer than 1″.)
In the case of a flying unit, as they can already ignore other units for movement, I would say that they can ignore those units for pivoting, as long as they finish their move in the clear. So 1a is the answer I’d go with.
I would like to see 1b become the standard interpretation as it would solve other issues like the flanked unit scenario.
Page 6 4th paragraph Change Facing! the unit can also pivot around its centre (on single rank thats 10 mm from the leading edge) Therefore 1a is correct as the pivot can be preformed before they land. cheers
