GW Price Punch-in-the-gut Petition? (53 posts)

Has anyone actually considered writing a petition to GW and getting the “community” to sign it and send it to GW?

Has anyone attempted to match the price-hikes over the years, to inflation using graphics and so on?

  • Avatar Image chibi2103p said 1 year ago:

Inflation in the UK atm is around 3%. That is relatively high in recent history.
Wouldn’t even bother matching GW price hikes to inflation as there is absolutely no correlation.

if the current rumours were that the increase was 5% across the board then it would be fairly understandable. But given the arbitrary 5-20%, which on past form sounds about right, then it is nothing to do with inflation.

Expect the same old excuses and if you can’t afford it don’t play comments.

I am done with GW now and I plan to play Dropzone commander as my main game now. It is a pisstake the prices for models. So when I do get a Ork Flyer it will be a custom proxy and when I do get the 6th edition rules it will be a pdf download. Vote with your wallet people then GW will have to listen when sales plummet!

I think there are various toys in our childhood (sci-fi Miromachines etc) that Dropzone “clicks” with. I’m defo gonna take a look at that.

I’ve sent letters to GW every year. Then I started playing Infinity. Guess which one is a more productive use of my time.

I play quite a few systems including 40k & warhammer fortunately I have plenty of models so i am not so effected by price hikes.
The true victims are the beginners or parents put off by the high prices
I don’t believe a petition would work, GW is a business and the only things that will effect them is a drop in sales and competition from other games.

The petition sender will receive a letter containing the following arguments from GW PR

    Dear Neck-beard,

We make a premium product, and set our prices accordingly. or “We’re the best gaming company in the world, and our prices reflect that.”

The price of our kits is no more than a nice meal, a night on the town, a video game, or 3 lap-dances. Unlike those products and services….our models will last you a lifetime and you will always enjoy them. Women will leave you, our models wont. Who would you rather spend time with? Besides, painting, collecting, and playing with our product provides a context for the only form of social contact that you’re capable of.

    All the best,

Person who does not respect you

“The models will last you forever” Yes, until you make new ones and push them in to our faces. If your a collector, like me, who has armies that are up and running, then you’ve no need to complain, an occasional purchase to keep the army growing or improving is no big deal. Like somebody said above, it’s the new players and thier parents who are seriously stuck in the rising shit of prices. But isn’t that the same in every hobby?

Example: a ww2 jeep 15 years ago could be totally built from the ground up for 5k, now it costs (using all repro parts available) upwards of 12-15k.
Living history gear is the same too. So it’s not just a greedy company. It’s companies who premiere their respective hobbies that push the prices.

The ‘problem’ is, people still buy GW products, so why wouldn’t they increase the price? Until they reach a certain point when the number of people switching to substitute games/activities becomes too costly to make an increase worthwhile, GW will keep on raising prices because people are willing to pay it…

Probably the worst painter in the world.

Not really. While prices have increased and some companies charge silly money, scale model making has not been as extravagant with pricing.
A 1/72 Fairey Swordfish is not going to mean much to most gamers, but the recent new Airfix kit is chock full of plastic and options for £14. Beautifully engineered with super detailing. Top quality decal sheet.

Series 1 and 2 kits have probably gone up a pound or two. Over the 12 years I got back into that hobby. Airfix have reissued the EE Lightning in 1/48, which is £4 more than when I bought one yonks ago.

Injected plastic doesn’t have to cost as much as GW would like to have us believe.

  • Avatar Image poosh1030p said 1 year ago:

Plastic miniatures, especially GW quality ones are very expensive to make. GW must invest considerable profit into making new plastic kits. Updating the bulk of their range to plastic is no easy task and they should be commended.

And the cost of GW products… like every product in the world, doesn’t just cover the raw materials. You’re literally paying for bricks and mortar that you may never enter, when you buy a GW product.

But this is quite literally price gouging. It’s more or less unheard of for anyone to up their prices every year. It makes it impossible for many people to buy new armies.

I just think if GW received 1,000 accounts of how you stopped playing/buying GW in any meaningful way, or that you can no longer afford it, and word of mouth got out about such a thing, it might, just, make a difference.
