Well, hello to all. I hope the new week finds you all well, and well heeled as there is a plethora games and related products on offer on Kickstarter this week…

To start out the hunt, here is something a bit unusual, a hardcover book on the science of creating games. By well known podcaster and journalist Geoff Engelstein from The Dice Tower. He has also designed a number of award winning games including The Ares Project, Space Cadets, and Survive: Space Attack.

This book is a must for anybody interested in designing a game, the science behind the games we love and enjoy so much and the history of them.

“The essays are grouped into seven main sections:

    Game Theory
    Game Mechanics
    Psychology Games

In addition, I am thrilled that Tom Vasel graciously agreed to contribute the Introduction”

For a more detailed breakdown of the chapters, there is a link to the full contents page and also a sample chapter, which I am looking forward to finding the time to read closely.

So get along to the page and take a look at this great chance to be in with a first print of what is sure to become an iconic book in gaming history.

Next up is a relaunch that has been keenly awaited by tin foil hat wearing game geeks for months. Or is that all just a conspiracy? It must be the Illuminaty attempting to establish a new world order by infiltrating the ruling families with lizard people.

The Game endorsed for entertainment periods in Fe- /ma camps between periods of waterboarding and genetic manipulation trials. Hopefully in the not too distant future, a copy will be being released translated into oink and specially modified for the trotters of the pig/human hybrids.

IF man ever manages to get to the moon, beyond the Firmament covering the flat Earth, this is the game they will take with them. Assuming of course Nibaru does not wipe out the planet first.

For all these juicy conspiracies, and many more, join in the fun at Illuminatus: Conspiracy-themed satirical board game

    Hey Fishman,
    Did you see this one?

    Looks fun.

  • Avatar Image fishman1506p said 9 months ago:

@bygone I did. I meant to add it last week, but there are soooooo many. Thanks for the tip though. If there are any others you, or anybody else see, please drop the hint. I will put this one in shortly. I have a few more to do and then a break to watch the Terrain Tutor Sunday nighter, before a few more…

In the rush to get things on the the boil in last weeks thread, a fun looking game I put on the back burner was Kitchen Rush, which unfortunately might leave you in a bit of a rush if you want to secure your copy of this game of timing and management to keep your restaurant afloat. Will you be the next Gordon Ramsey or Iron Chef. Only the egg timer will tell… (finish 23/06)

Help them cook up a storm and open that last stretch goal in the last few days of this campaign

Become the astronaut you told your kindergarten teacher you were going to be. You know the dream never died. Fly through space solo in the easy little Reissue of Deep Space D-6 and new Mini-Expansion. (21/06)

For those familiar with the previous issue, here is a few things different in the re-issue:

    “What’s new in the reissue?

This is a straight reprint (not a 2nd edition). The first Kickstarter unlocked a wealth of enhancements and the box is at max capacity. As such, there will be no stretch goals and only minor changes from the first printing. The components are largely identical with the following revisions:

Revised Rulebook – added some card clarifications
Hull and Shield cubes now have rounded corners
Ouroboros gameplay text has been modified

The Long Way Home is an optional roleplaying supplement for DSD-6 that will be made available for free to all backers in the months following delivery of the game. A professionally printed version may happen in the future, but will not be part of this campaign. ”

For an easy to follow tutorial on the gameplay, her is a youtube video for you to view as dream of the stars. A combination of objectives and dice roles it is designed for those of us who have no friends and is specicaly targeted at solo gamers.

Thanks again @bygone for the reminder to put this up. I just got the 48 hour reminder email…

Whilst flying through space, you might encounter these fellas. If you survive to tell the tale, you might just have conquered the galaxy and won the game.

Heaps of minis and a nice looking board and support components makes this a game worth a look.

With only 48 hours left until Halloween…campaign finishes, get scared about missing out. Use ghosts to terrify humans, but keep in mind that your opponents have the same goal in mind, and can use the same ghosts.

With a variety of pledges for packages with other games, and for multiple copies of Halloween.

Hey @fishman I don’t know if you gave this one a shout out yet, but you should if you haven’t!

I was fortunate enough to get a game of this during Supanova on Sunday. It was easy to learn, and great fun to play!

One day all the armies will be painted… one day.

HI @rayzryr, thanks for the comments on Lucidity. I did mention it in last weeks thread, but will throw it in here again.

For those who are not regulars in the weekender thread, here is what @rayzryr had to say about the game:-
Well, I spent yesterday at Supanova in Sydney. While I was there, at @fishman ‘s recommendation, I stopped of at Fox Tale games stand in the Artist’s Alley.
Shannon (who was really friendly) is running a kickstarter for his game Lucidity, which I got to try my hand at.
I’ve got to say, it really was fun! The game is fairly easy to learn, it has a great risk vs reward element, and you get to roll lots of dice! All good in my book.
The risk comes in several places: each die can help or hinder you, you can forego points to reroll dice you don’t like. You can just roll a small number of dice each turn, or you can press your luck and roll two or three pools of dice each turn, and the pool is increased each time you roll.
The dice might inflict a status upon you though: Exhausted, Nightmare, Hunted.
If your Exhausted, you might lose all points you’ve scored of a random colour. If you’re a Nightmare, you’ve become one of the monsters and can only score points by stealing them from other players. If you become Hunted your out of the game.
At the moment the game plays 2 – 4 players. I got a two player game, but I reckon four would be more fun.
Shannon and his assistants were really friendly, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I walked away from the stand and with little hesitation backed the Kickstarter within the hour. Most of the production is done, some of the components need to be upgraded. It seems like Shannon has most of the production arrangements in place though.
    Highly recommended for backing!

Thanks @rayzryr for going to check it out and for the review. And for backing. It will be great to get such a nice looking game produced locally.

For those who want to find out more about the game:

    ” Kickstarter Live Session

Alright, I am going to give this a go and run the first Kickstarter Live session this coming weekend. If you are in Australia, it will start 9am Sunday 25 June and run for one hour. That time works out to about 4pm Saturday 24th in PST time; or 11pm Saturday 24th at GMT+0.”

For those who like to play their football on a table sized field with miniature players, there are a couple of nice teams looking for your sponsorship for next season and into the future.

These tough guys are The Chaos Pact, from the training stables of Willy’s Miniatures.

Some of these great models could grace any Chaos army, and then be thrown onto the field for a bit of a game with the pig skin.

  • Avatar Image fishman1506p said 9 months ago:

And for a bit of competition on the field comes a team of marauding Ice Men; Already seasoned campaigners, these guys are getting an upgrade from metal and a full roster. From Rolljordan, trainers of the winning Goblin/Tengu team and various other successful seasons. The Goblin team is also available. (finish 30/06)

  • Avatar Image fishman1506p said 9 months ago:

If Elves are more your thing, these guys are fast, nimble and gutsy, with a tree along to make sure they are not outmuscled! (end 05/07)

A kickstarter in the true spirit of the platform is this one for a couple of Fantasy Football enthusiasts to open an online web store from Quebec, Canada to supply fantasy football stock to fellow enthusiasts. Offering a lifetime membership with entitlement to discounts and a range of credit options in the store, this is an opportunity to help someone build themselves a shop and aid all those who will benefit from a comprehensive online shop for Fantasy Football products.

Horror boards pits you against the un-known horrors of the dark.It is fortunate you are also one of those horrors. Each player is a cold bloobed stalker of innocent victims. Let the body count begin. And if, in the course of your murderous rampage, you happen to get the opportunity to fight an opponent, you can do that too. Be the first home to your particular asylum or safe house with the required number of victims scalps hanging from your belt and you win. Don’t die! But, if you do, you get a second chance…
