Whilst as much as i would like to see a new dwarf army book, i’d prefer for them to hold off and do it properly. I don’t want to see monsters or stone creatures etc as it’s not dwarfen. I’d like to see a zepplin of some sort as that is what dwarfs are about. I’d like to see rules for shield walls, and a grudge army special rule that will allow for us to re-roll 1 or 2 to charge dice on the first charge of the unit.

As for GW publicity we do get a fair amount of credible info from sources in and around GW anyway. So wether credible rumour or hard fact i believe we are still no better than where we were 2-3 years ago.

I’m pretty happy with 8th the way it is now. I’m really looking forward to a new VC book, but other than WE and Bretonians (which I never see on the table), I don’t think that too much is needed. Dwarfs and Empire are ok, I cant see a new book doing a lot for these armies other than releasing some multi-part plastics, which price wise, will bring units in line with others.

I can Imagine that Warhammer Forge will be a good way to introduce a lot of cool stuff for Dwarfs (at least for the kind of stuff people are talking about) ….and they’ll probably do a better job than GW.

WE and Bretonnians defenetly really need upgrade. They would benefit from it more than other armies.

I know it sound crazy, but what about a dwarf monstrous creature which is basically like a Dwarf Old World Dreadnought?

The theory behind it, or indeed the fluff is that the rune is a forgotten rune which was lost in a deep tomb. A dwarf scouting party with a particularly renegade runesmith went in search of it and bought back the secrets of its craft. The rune enables the binding of a soul into living rock and metal, creating constructs to defend the deepest reaches of the holds.

…but then again thats a little stolen from Dragon Age: Origins lol…but hey, thats not beyond GW lol.

According to the big rulebook…the one that falls apart when you breath on it ;) The king is unlocking the vaults…….mew (ancient warmachines) i to hope for Dragon age Golems, but if fear any new releases will be massive ancestor cannons. Love the idea of a dwarf zeppelin, but the dwarfs need to be active in each phase of the game, and make them viable in each.

If they bring monstrous golems back I’m quitting. This goes against what we stumpies stand for, we kill giants a lot of the times before they can do any damage we don’t use them. You want dwarfs better make the Bs on our quarrelers/thunderers 4 drop our Ws to 3 and also drop the dwarf gun bonus. this makes the quarrelers useful again, and doesn’t make them op. Also the cost of our core is a little high we should drop to 6pts for a standard warrior this makes the 7 pts with shield 8 with Gw and 9pts to upgrade to long-beards. Thunderers need to drop by 2 pts and quarrelers by 1 pt. Bsb’s not being able to carry a shield but I can carry a big fraking rock to stand on ???? really.???? this should be changed to shield or oath stone. Anything in the army that has a strength of 4 with out the aid of a great weapon or runic item should gain +1 to their Initiative, just because I’m short doesn’t mean I cant hit you faster than you can hit me. For crying out loud our lords have Initiative 3 and there the oldest dwarfs on the field. These are changes that I want to see first before I see new models added.

There’s nothing really that wrong with the idea of Golems/Guardians of the Hold or something. The very fact that they could be born of the stone would have it make sense. After all, a Golem isn’t a giant…and its a natural part of the earth, not something monstrous.

Plus I could see something like this…

    Looking amazing done well…

I’d like to see the following things for dwarfs: i have a funny feeling that we will end up with a super cannon stone thrower thingo of grudge bearing OP’ness.

If GW persist in bringing out monsters (golems) for dwarfs, make them mechanical but tie it into the fluff. Make them “NEW” inventions not old, if they really worked then the long beards would have dragged them out years ago.

So… for those wanting to take “golems or the new inventions” you have to take an engineer, but you can’t take a master engineer (as they haven’t been guild approved) etc. You can do this by creating an Lord/hero rule upgrade (longbeard in style) as to wether they are tarditionalist or the newer radical thinking dwarfs… It will mean that the new units will have to finely balanced as not to become “you have to take these or get tabled”

    As for the “traditional style” allow shield walls for dwarf warriors;
+1 armour save +1 T for the sacifice of a movement phase. My thinking behind this, is to many times in the past i’ve smashed dwarfs by taking out there warriors and then flankiing the special units.
Up there I there dwarfs, yeah there stubborn reflected in there LD but there not stupid.
Decrease in points, make infantry armies viable (tired of facing gunlines) you may even be able to tie this into what style of king you have etc.

    Just a few ideas :)

    Ancestor cannon
    Dwarf Zeppelin
Dwarfs should have the best armour in the game in my opinion, plus isnt it a dishonour to run away or break an oath…..hence make em really hard to break in combat/panic,
Shieldwall, stubborn…..cause dwarfs dont run :)

I haven’t got much to add to this discussion other than my own personal preference in terms of what armies I think GW should release next.

Firstly I think Vampire Counts are a strong choice for the next potential revamp. It seems that everyone has skeletons in their closet (ho ho). I mean many people have some form of undead in their miniature collections. They are definitely in need of a boost in terms of a rules fix, brand new units and a return to bloodline powers.

Since getting more familiar with dwarfs in the last few weeks, I can honestly say they are a brilliant army, are very popular and in need of specialist units to be made plastic. There are far better Dwarf contributors than me in this discussion who have raised ideas for what they wish to see in the next Dwarf book. I myself really like the airship idea. Superb. I think the Dwarfs would be ideal as a next rereleased army.

Empire are a favourite army of mine but I also have no real great urge to see them redone just yet. In my opinion all they need is new list of magic items and maybe the odd spring clean here and there. They don’t require a bit beasty as I think that role has been taken up successfully by the steam tank. To be honest, I don’t think they need much in the way of new things at all. Yet saying that, the one model I would very like to see remade is the Grand Theogonist. I would like to see a giant metal griffin with a manic Grand Theogonist preaching on it.

However, If I had a choice I would love the next army to be redone to be: Wood Elves. They are such an exciting and fun army. They would be an absolute dream to collect and play if done correctly. I would also like to give them a go painting wise. I think the Wood Elves could do with a full revamp in terms of new book, updated rules, plastic sets and brand new units. They’d be a great choice for a new release.

  • Avatar Image jazzxeno20p said 1 year, 7 months ago:

Agree, wood elves badly need updating…the old treeman and treekin for me were absolute horrid models. Vampires need their ability to spam magic, and personally i think a far bigger role for necromancers.

  • Avatar Image m1acca1551113p said 1 year, 7 months ago:

The problem with wood elves, as i remember when they were re-done is that people went “wow WE! how F****** cool are they, they look awesome” but still picked up the WoC army book and walked to the counter.

They need something more than a re-do, they need to be scrapped and completely re-done fluff, rules, mini’s etc. I’d personally like to see them become the middle ground between HE/DE representing natures ficulty(spelling??) remove the skirmish feel and allow them to have an army that to a player they can feel as if they are “part” of the warhammer table top game and not some fluff from a dark corner brought to life in the interest of generating some profit.

How many new players will choose WE over any of the other armies?, only veterans tend to collect them as they are different. GW has to move them from the fringes as with beastmen and make them more of a core army.

from what i’ve gathered bretonians are the next ones and they are the most in need of an update, from what a friend of mine who looked into it told me on paper they should never win a battle against any army in 8th

  • Avatar Image andz83p said 1 year, 6 months ago:

I just feel as though VC minis aren’t that old and they just got the terrorgeist the other month so what else can they bring out. When was the last time Dwarfs got anything new?

  • Avatar Image m1acca1551113p said 1 year, 6 months ago:

There are still a few old units floating about that are in desperate need of an update. Whilst this may be the case Dwarfs need a mini update far more as all there elites are still metal and bloody expensive! But people still buy them, so GW are in no rush to change them. Black Knights, fell bats, black coachs etc are all items in need of an update, that people aren’t buying due to the age of the mini’s… throw in zombies too.
