Spartan Games space fleet combat game based on the hit video game Halo has been out for a few months now and we got a good look at it at this years Salute and Gen Con. We knew then that this game would grow into something amazing, but I had not expected to see the huge carriers for the Covenant and UNSC this soon.
I had a hint we might be seeing something when we saw the huge model of the Covenant carrier at Gen Con, but here they are ready for the fleet admirals to take command and bring the fight to the enemy.
For the Covenant you have the CAS (Covenant Assault Carrier) and for the UNSC the Punic Class Supercarrier. Spartan Games describes the CAS this way:
“Assault carriers are monumental symbols of Covenant power, and among the deadliest implements wielded by the Prophets in their war against humanity. Each assault carrier is a potent instrument of conversion and compliance, capable of deploying thousands of troops and numerous fighter craft, backed by an array of devastating energy projectors that can burn entire continents to ash.
A single CAS is sufficient to quell all but the most pernicious heresy, rebellion, or parasite outbreak. Colossally expensive to construct and few in number, the rare loss of an assault carrier is mourned by the entire Covenant.”
By the looks of this thing any world or fleet that stands in its way is in for a world of hurt, literally! If you are a Covenant player you definitely want to add one of these to your fleet. As for the UNSC player, you know Master Chief needs a place to hang his helmet and call it home. With this in mind you can get the Punic Class Supercarrier and all its butt kicking power.
The background story on this class of ships is no less impressive:
“The Punic and its sister ships were the first of a new breed of warships drafted to fight a new style of colonial war in the waning years of the 25th century.
Officially designated Space Control Vehicles, these massive carriers could transport and sustain entire Colonial Military Authority (CMA) expeditionary and interdiction campaigns in the remote Outer Colonies for months at a time, crushing dissent and terrorism before it could fester and spread. At least, that was the intent before Covenant fleets threatened humanity with extinction.”
I am telling you one thing, this game is getting pretty impressive. I have it on my list since Salute and talking to Neal. My sons love the video game and we thought when they come home from the army we could get in a few games of Halo: Fleet Battles and see who stands victorious at the end!
Are you on the side of the Covenant or the Humans?
