Hexagon Mill are the latest company to pop up on Kickstarter with a range of terrain. This product is their MDF Flat Pack Pre-Painted Terrain that would be ideal for plenty of Sci-Fi games out there...

The terrain is hard wearing and modular which slots together easily when you want it and disassembles afterwards to be packed away for ease of travel. The other big thing about the terrain is that it comes pre-painted so it's ready to go...
As you can see it comes together to give you a nice looking set for playing a range of different Sci-Fi games. I like the style of it all which comes in at around the 'near modern' period.
I think the perfect battlefields for this though would be Infinity where you could go to down with some advertising on the sides potentially to jazz it up.
While people bemoan this kind of terrain for taking away the hobby aspect of our games I think this is perfect for people who just want to get stuck into their games and get playing.

With the way Infinity is played in the USA, this is perfect for tournament organizers as it doesn’t take up all the room in their house and they have some pre-painted ready to go terrain for up to many multiple tournament tables. While it’s a little expensive for my wallet, I applaud the ingenuity.
To echo what tomatovich said, the Shark Mounted Laser stuff is NOT too expensive for my wallet. I own a few pieces and it’s top notch MDF terrain. Only $15 USD for an 8×8 inch objective building? heck year
Looks good, but what is it? Why buildings with no doors or windows, why ladders to climb onto a roof with nothing on it apart from ramps to get to another roof? These blocks make no sense whatsoever.
I agree. They look really good but once you realise they have no thematic purpose aside from being box shapes to play games on, they lose a little credibility.
Still, a nice easy way to get a table full of terrain that packs up easily and doesn’t cost too much.
Sometimes it’s just nice to have some painted scenery to play with regardless of whether it actually makes any “sense”? I don’t recall games of Necromunda being made worse.
People have made realistic boards and have suffered for it. I remember seeing an absolutely lovely Infinity table, but practically, it was too crowded and you had all sorts of problems in getting bases in certain places.
Yeah, better to have terrain than not regardless of whether it makes sense. A couple of doors or other features (fans, vents, windows, whatever) wouldn’t go amiss in adding a little pseudo realism though. At least the Necromunda terrain had that going for it, making it look like it had an industrial purpose, even if not entirely realistic. Sure, totally agree, but wouldn’t it be an idea to have a door and window on each? You could make exactly the same layouts but with an added bit of realism.
Makes more sense than most terrain I’ve seen (not in a magazine) which seems like every table is the crash landing spot for a cargo container airship.
But I agree, need to buy some doors and such to tack onto them.
I’m looking forward to more (and hopefully cheaper) prepainted options out there because I really don’t give a flying fig about the hobby side of things.

An average of $26 (or £18.40) per building element does seem strong for the full set.
Compared to other pre-painted terrain it’s not ridiculous though. How much would a table full of 4-ground terrain cost. Unfortunately you can’t really compare the design quality of this to 4-ground so I suppose it is very much on the pricey side for a full table.
If it worked out at a tenner a building I may have been more interested.

well i have these in mind for good precolored terrain and are way cheaper…. ok they don’t have the fold-flat option wich IS a plus…. but they are charging for that.
i’m not saying it’s a bad product in fact i LOVE IT but definetly not if you are on a budget….
Pre-painted stuff is relatively in its infancy. There is obviously an appetite for it, but you can tell companies are still trying to get to grips with it. Antenocitis Workshop had a very successful kickstarter, although someone involved with that will have to tell me how much it cost for their buildings. Bandua Wargames released some prepainted stuff, but tbh it seems pretty expensive (odd considering the unpainted stuff is relatively cheap) and the pre-painted stuff doesn’t look great. From the conversations I’ve had with the creator of the terrain it is one of many types they are producing. So I wouldn’t find it far fetched to see doors/windows/etc in future projects. It’s a collaboration of three companies which so happen to be all under one roof.
If you are looking for something that makes more sense here is shark mounted lasers other stuff.

Just an FYI the terrain was designed with tournaments in mind. The owner of Shark Mounted Lasers is the ITS US champion Fithavil.
It’s nice for tournaments or if you have to travel with your terrain often but personally I do not like to look of it. While the pre-painted effect seems nice the buildings have no depth and its very obvious that they are just stuck together flat panels. And $400+$40 for a full table including shipping to EU is not cheap. The gaming mat costs $60 extra and and unknown extra amount for shipping to EU so a really complete table is upwards of $500. 500€ buys me a full Micro Art Studio table including a high-quality gaming mat, loads of… Read more »
