Darrell addresses a box of Victrix Austrian Infantry… are Napoleonic miniatures his new love?
Those are rather nice.
The Victrix stuff is 28mm, but the heads and gear are just about the right size for converting a Imperial Guardsman.
I’ll need to get some converted for Backstage… I also have to show you guys my Samurai Guardsman combo made from the Wargames Factory Samurai & a IG model.
I really like the pre-1809 helmets of the Austrians. Wish all these plastic sprues were available individually for skirmish gaming. Hopefully some of the specialized “bits” stores will see enough potential in it.
I have a feeling that affordable 15mm (or even 10mm) napoleonics made in palstic would be the “next big thing” after FoW in terms of accessible “grand manner” historical wargaming. I think the colorful uniforms, different units and impressive formations hold general appeal, but people probably get turned off by the price of metals and the somewhat “serious”, grognard-y scent surrounding the period. With rules like the new Drums And Shakos Large Battles however, there is no more need for games to take 5 hours. I think a solid set of basic troops in 15mm plastic would sell well.
I really like the way more Historical miniature manufacturers are bringing out more plastic troops. Building new armies has been so much more affordable in rescent years now that you can do the bulk in plastic. Only problem my plastic mountain is getting as big as my unpainted lead mountain
Victric do some nice stuff, as do perry. The ww2 stuff is a bit out of scale for my tastes but no issues with the Nappies. Ancients also getting some great minis as well from other sources.
I had loads of victrix waterloo brits but had to sell them off due to no space, lack of painting time and worst of all a sudden lack of players following some shifts in personel at the game club.
