Andy takes a look at the Aragoto Senkenbutai from Yu Jing. Let’s see what he thinks of these impetuous “Akira bikers”.
They’re rather nice looking models. I’m not convinced that they’ll survive very long with no smoke TBH, and you’ll end up using their own orders to cancel their impetuous an awful lot just to keep them in a decent firing position.
Impetuous + average in melee is a strange and awkward combo.
I have these and I have found them slightly awkward to use so far. I seem to try and run up through lines of cover and do as much damage with the spitfire as I can before I lose both. But in small point games (that I am playing) losing both these guys sends you a long way towards retreating.
However i do love the models and with the starter army i picked up from corvus belli they form one of the main threats you have.
A lack of smoke is a pain and it is only the celsetial guard with the control device and smoke grenade launcher that can drop smoke for the Yu Jing.

Infinity is a ranged Combat game and CC is not your objective, Impetuous troops means they will close the distance and be in their optimal rangeband soon, the trick and what seems “awkward” is managing Impetuous, you need to have a clear path on how they will advance and how they will not end up in the open with their impetuous order and realise they will die, of course they will going forward alone and unsupported is a good way for that to happen, the point is their death to have an impact to the enemy make sure they have a mission they they can achieve like hunting down LI or ganging up on a medium to hard target,
True enough. The difficulty here is that some of the things you might want impetuous loonies to do (eg, absorb the enemy’s attention and firepower) are negated by being allowed unlimited AROs. Without smoke to help make a clear path where none exists, you’re just going to need those body bags all the sooner.
Of course, if/when Infinity get around to adding missions then the usefulness of these troops may be improved. Until then they look like nice models, but a poor choice for 30 points IMO.
That would probably happen this year with the expected campaigns and scenarios book.

Well, I’m still waiting for the RPG, myself ! As for the minis, they do look awkward to use… And I’d rather have antigrav bikes than wheels. Meteor zond conversion anyone ?

YuJing has the Shaolin monks warband, who also have smoke grenades. Actually they are impetuou too, so they work Ok with Aragoto because they can activate before the Aragoto and throw smoke.
I think Infinity has really great looking miniatures from an objective perspective, solid design and sculpts. But like many sci-fi wargames, they lack proper squiggly non-humanoid aliens which tend to be my sadly “niche” taste! I’d like to see them introduce a faction of proper tentacled horrors inspired by some of the twisted 80′s anime stuff.
As for the bikers – yep, spot on when you said Akira. I think my mate would love these models being that’s a big fan of that sort of thing so ill probably pass this video along and try and further my corruption and manipulation of turning him to miniatures.

Have you seen the Combined army? They are the alien faction. They have some certainly proper aliens. I just bought their remotes and you can’t get more tentacly. I play the Shasvastii which I think are the most “alien”. The next ones I’d say are the Exrah.
Well I like the CA’s Drones, but otherwise the rest are just bipeds/humanoids so not my cup of tea.
Funny.. I would sooooo much have prefered it if there had been no such thing as the alien Combined Army in the fluff which seems to be just what you’re actually missing..
The alien influence just ruins the setting for me..
Interesting video, however I’m sorry Andy but the first Aragoto you have shown has a combi rifle + light shotgun. It can be played as either the standard profile or the Lieutenant option. The second one is the Spiffire option instead of a heavy shotgun. It must be kept in mind the Aragoto have an option with boarding shotgun but no heavy shotgun. They are a unit players need some practice to get used to. Because of their high speed they can reach any point in the table with just a few orders. it’s quite common to send them to storm enemy postions in the first turn and make the first blood, however another tactic is to use them to counterattack, keeping them in your zone and launching them later so they can exploit any weak spot on enemy’s defense.
Yeah, I always get them mixed up. If you’ve seen any of the previous shows I’ve done with Myk, it’s the Combi Rifle or Shotgun that always catches me out.
the combi rifle has a box magazine and a single barrel the Boarding Shotgun has a round box magazine and double barrel.
I know the difference is small at first but with time it becomes obvious.
I think the problem stems from us not using WYSIWYG for out Infinity games.
A dud with a shotgun, might have a combi rifle when we’re playing… or even an HMG!
I like them, heck I like the entire range. Its good to know how they work in the game, thanks Andy.
If you can’t figure out what to do with them at the start of the game then just start them dismounted. I can’t find anything that says they must start mounted and dismounted cuts their movement down to 4-2. they will still be impetuous but the mandatory move is now half what it was. An effective stall until you need them. Then mount up and take off.
That’s an interesting thought. I’d not realised they could dismount, and that might make a difference as you say.
Hi, loving what you do for Infinity. I have some questions first concerning the model and the Grenades Launcher. Until now we played the Aragatos as follows: If you read the rulebook (2nd Edition) there is a topic which discribes the motocycle rule (p:181). There it is stated that motocycles have an integrated Grenade Launcher with the Smoke Ammunition so we took it for granted that Aragatos have Smoke grenade launchers. Furthermore the rule concerning the Grenade launcher states that it can be used with three type of ammunition, Normal, Smoke and E/M. Therefore we thought that if you have a Grenade Launcher that you can choose the ammunition but if you have a Smoke grenade launcher the ammunition is fixed. Could you please clear this up. Thanks
I was under the impression that the reason the lists mention a specific ammo type is because that’s all you can use with it (for that trooper). I also thought that the type of motorbikes varied and that some had grenade launchers and others didn’t. I’m pretty rusty at Infinity though, so you’ll need that confirmed.
@neophoenix I thought they had a grenade launcher too… but the Japanese Bikes are not military motorcycles (so I’m told) therefore they don’t have Smoke Launchers.
Mike pointed it out to me, the military versions (see the Haqislam) state on their profile that they have a smoke launcher.
So lets start at the beginning. Here is the entry for motorcycles in Inifinity.
An individual light vehicle characterized by its great speed and maneuver ability. Modern army motorcycles are hybrid off-road multipurpose vehicles that adapt themselves to any environment or situation. In order to reflect this in the game, Motorcycles can use the Dodge Skill with a –6 MOD. Normally, army Motorcycles have an integrated Light Grenade Launchers with Smoke Special Ammunition. Motorcycles are not susceptible to being hacked, although they are affected by E/M Special Ammunition. Motorcycles cannot Overrun. So it’s a special smoke only Grenade Launcher. Not to be confused with a standard 40mm Grenade Launcher available to ground troops. That’s where the confusion might be. Now here is the FAQ regarding Aragoto bikes.
FAQ: Motorcycle -Do the Aragoto bikes have a Smoke Light Grenade Launcher? In the army lists, the Kum bikes note they have the Smoke Light Grenade Launcher, but the Aragoto bikes don’t. Answer: No, the Motorcycle rule points the military motorbikes usually have a Smoke Light Grenade Launcher, but it doesn’t say they always have one. The weaponry and equipment of a troop is always noted in the army lists. In this case, the Aragoto bikes do not have this weapon option. And it is so in the Infinity army builder. All the listings for the Haqqislam Kum attack bikes list in their equipment line as having smoke grenades and a smoke grenade launcher. So if you are ever in doubt just refer to the Infinity army builder or the Infinity rules wiki and those will always be the most up to date and usually the most clear cut. I have found that even the 2nd ed printing still has a few language issues making some wordings difficult. While I love the company and their products I”m afraid that they’re still using a native Spanish speaker who knows English to translate Vs a native English Speaker who knows Spanish. Therefore you will always get grammar and sentence structure issues as they know the language but not always how it should be formatted.

thank you for the quick replies concerning the aragatos. This helps me alot. But I still wondering if you take a Keisotsu Butai with the light grenade launcher or any other model with a light grenade launcher, can you choose which type of ammunition they have like stated in the rules for the grenade launcher p:175 of the rulebook or do you need to have the specified weapon (i.e. light smoke grenade launcher for smoke grenades) and therefore the light grenade launcher with normal ammunition only.
Pretty sure you only get the ammo that is listed in the army list entry. The entry for the grenade launcher just says what they can technically be used to fire, and has no bearing on what troops actually carry as a combat load.
The answer is no. The rules state that a Grenade Launcher is able to fire various types of ammo but you do not automatically get all those. Look at the army list entry for Keisotsu Butai and it lists a combi-rifle and light grenade launcher. Since no special grenades are listed, ( like smoke or EM ) then the rules say that you can only use normal grenades. If you have access to special ammo, it will be listed right next to the grenade launcher entry in your army list.

Ghost in the Shell bikes, I have 2 myself at the moment for my section 9 based JSA ^^ although will probably only use one in the smaller point games and cover him with a Keisotsu with either a HMG or Missle Launcher, use the bike to draw them out and the firebase to cover them.
