Darrell takes a look at some more Infinity models. Today it’s the mighty Traktor Mul for the Ariadna faction.
It’s Ariadna. Now the model has come out I am thinking of running these with 2 scout forward observers in a 200 point list. Do you get enough parts to give the two traktor’s the same weapon option?
I was thinking the same thing. The cover might be just to show what you can have. I really hope they did give enough for eather.
Unfortunately Infinity doesn’t usually give you different weapon options or extra bits.
You know something is broken and cheesy when Darrell gets this excited about it. Very cool bits of kit for Ariadna!!
I must say that Ariadna model looks great.
WARNING! – This is not broken the way everyone thinks it is. While a great model and a cool addition to the Ariadna forces, this remote has some big drawbacks to balance it out.
1. Slow. Only 6 in max. Easily out maneuvered.
2. Limited Range. This missile system is only good out to 48 inches. Half the range of the others. Hell, even a two shot Panzerfaust will go 96 inches.
THE MOST IMPORTANT.
3. It is useless without a spotter. The rules are very clear. Unless you have a forward observer spotting for you this thing is DIRECT FIRE ONLY. Meaning you will sit this at the back of the board in your deployment zone and when I blow your spotter away on turn one, this has no targets. It cannot shoot over terrain on its own. That’s why you cant hack them either because the tech is so old. No source programmable guidance. Infinity is a scenery rich environment. If you can’t shoot over anything, and your that slow coming in from the very back of the board, you wont have a target until it’s right on top of you. And then it’s all over. If you want to read it yourself, check the Infinity wiki on the website and under weapons look at the rules for the Katyusha and the Uragan. No parabolic fire or speculative shots in normal firing mode.
A cool bit of kit don’t get me wrong. And again great minis, but far from the unbeatable game breaker people seem to think it is. Remember in Infinity you will never be beaten just by someones gear or force list. They still have to know how to use it and you can still get around anything. Happy Hunting!
Hear hear. I understand why a lot of people approach Infinity with the 40k mentality saying things like “Putting those three templates on the table is broken!”. Yeah, but you have to GET it in place first and with proper terrain that isn’t so easy. And here, you opponent won’t be waiting for his turn, he’ll be able to react to your moving Traktor, the firing of the weapon, the actions of the forward observer, … mines, AP ammo, or in case of a forward observer pairing a parachuting model sent to the back where Traktor sits can really ruin its day – ther is always a way around. But as Spaderfish said, Ariadnans only laugh at the advanced, high-techy armies’ attempts to “hack” their toaster-tech. In a highly technological battlefield that can be a major advantage.
Just from an aesthetic viewpoint, I really don’t like these things. I know Ariandna is supposed to be retro tech and all, but these just look like an 80′s throwback. The tracks are ridiculously small. (A near miss of a frag shold in theory disable the vehicle.) I was thinking about getting some Arianda sculpts, in particular the Scottish units, but I saw that these were the support vehicles, and thought they were a bit dodgy. Made me reconsider the purchase.
Looks like you can magnetize them, but the guns / pods look pretty heavy, so you would need some strong / big magnets.
You can make a perfectly fine Ariadna force without ever looking at the Traktor Mul. Unlike in most other games, you get what you “pay for” in points and there is very little “useless” stuff and practically no “must haves” in this game. There is plenty of other support options within Ariadna (even the Calledonian – Scottish sectorial) so you most certainly won’t find yourself having to buy the Traktor anywhere down the line.
As for the tracks; don’t worry, Ariadna has limitless supplies of Tesseum, the ultra-metal of the Infinity universe, so if those tracks (or links in them) are made from it, near-miss frag will have a hard time disableing the vehicle.
Oh come on guys, ubiquanon only expressed his aesthetic preferences, surely that doesn’t call for negative carma?
sound like fun pieces but Im not digging the looks for infinity…hmmm epic or 15mm scfi, now we are talking
Well heck, I will vote you up. The negative Karma I get makes me laugh.
You mean Infinity in 15mm? I had a thought like that early on and I think it could work. Like a travel version. And since full scale is about 30mm average everything still works you just cut all the weapon distances in half and shrink the templates and buildings by 50%. I just don’t know of a company that makes great Sci-fi minis in 15mm.
There is a ton of companies that make cool SciFi minis. You can start by checking out the Dropship Horizon blog or simply Googling “15mm Sci Fi”.
really?? or do you mean you know 15mm minis but not great ones? GZG has some excellent 15mm (Ground Zero games)
I meant 15mm generic sci fi but travel Infinity sounds good to
I meant minis that I didn’t think were great. While I understand that you can’t get the same level of detail in 15mm that you can in 30mm I think some manufacturers just get sloppy during the production process. Things aren’t perfect but they ship anyway because they don’t think anyone will notice at that scale. Seeing the quality of production from Corvus Belli as they stand now, I would love to see that attention to detail brought to 15mm. You may not even need to re-sculpt. Just scan the mold into a computer, reduce by 50%, and reproduce. It would allow epic games of Infinity while not detracting from the original. And if we’re going down that road I’ll go you one better. Magnetic strips. A foldaway 2x by 2x magnetic board and then you can cut little custom magnetic strips to glue to the bases of your minis and scenery. At that size you might even have a game on a plane! Ah the possibilities…. I would love to see the day.
I like the retro RC look of the Traktor Mul. That’s the main reason I would pick a box of them up. As for it’s use in the game, I shall see soon.
RC that’s a interesting one. I didn’t see that right away. I was getting a Short Circuit kind of vibe. Like it has no mouth so the target light just blinks as it talks to you. And it’s got a real sarcastic sense of humor so as your crawling through the jungle it’s just puttering along behind you, telling bad jokes and trying not to give your position away. Real character
Finally had time to watch the video; nice review, good to see them from all the different sides and I like how you guys wash the bare metals after assembly, makes details visible. Oh, and Darrell: oo-rah-ghan ka-tew-shah
MIIIINE You’ll be mine someday,I swear!
