It’s the year 4010, when the unthinkable happens. In a catastrophic event, the planet Earth explodes, sending the survivors out into the galaxy to band together and try to establish a colony on another planet. What to do? Where to go? As we all know, there are safety in numbers, so we must work as team to combine resources and try to safely land people on another planet to ensure the survival of humanity.
This is Last Starfleet, by Wicked Grin Games, which is out on Kickstarter now and looks like a ton of fun! Last Starfleet is a cooperative adventure card game to be played with 2-6 players, and what I love about this game is the ease of play. The rules flow nicely and the mechanics of the cards are very straightforward. It offers plenty of variety by players getting to choose which ship to play as well as which planet they are trying to inhabit/play against. The planet is your “enemy” in this game, causing trouble for your mission through the elements or the native life forms. The creators point out that a player of any level can play and enjoy this game. This is because the mechanics are clear enough for a “newbie” to hop in be a helpful addition to a team, while a more advanced gamer can find challenge in exploring the combinations of different ships in normal game play or branching into the alternate rule set, “Deus Ex Machina”. I love that the rule sets are separated, because it keeps the game approachable and allows for growth.
Have you ever wondered how long it would take to establish a successful colony on another planet? The answer is 60-90 minutes. Not too shabby, considering your home planet is now an asteroid belt.
Will you join the Last Starfleet to ensure the survival of humanity?
