How To Play Team Yankee #3 - Infantry & Assaults

Now we're getting into the nitty gritty and playing with some Infantry in our games of Team Yankee. These guys might be the key to your combined arms effort on the tabletop.

They might be featuring as part of the upcoming Achievements we run tomorrow!

I think just one platoon of each type will be a good starting point for me

I continue to don’t understand what an infantry platoon can do against MBTs :/

Glad that assaults will be more rare and risky. In reality I don’t see guys charging positions in the modern era.

Makes sense. Quick and clean.

For me these infantry are a bit defenseless against MBT but great against every other types of team; I think we must change our understandment of infantry platoon

As I understand it, that’s supposedly a pretty accurate representation.

Seems that the firepower us pretty high for even the small AT teams. Not sure that’s right.

MBTs and AFVs are cool and all… But you still needs boots on the ground to hold it. I’m glad to see infantry still have a role in the game.

still a bit confused about the defensive fire. But cant be more confusing than FoW v3 so well see when we have the book and the units

Yeah, infantry in TY are very different from infantry in FoW. With the piles of man-portable AT they bring, they’re a nightmare to assault for anything other than MBTs (who shrug off most RPG hits thanks to their armour) or very well-supported infantry (pinning, smokescreens).

All in all, an excellent way to hold objectives.
Those BMP-2s will also be a nightmare; their ATGMs are more than capable of knocking out an Abrams frontally and their autocannons are anti-helicopter weapons.

its nice to see that the rules are a bit more stream lined than FoW, I’m eager to see if they introduce more different troops, like commandos (sas, ksk, etc.) or if they keep it simple and concentrate on ‘standard’ troops, vehicles and aircrafts

I would love to see some commandos or special forces… may be we can use the navy seals, which are already released for tour of duty one day 😀

Finally, love the infantry, not a big fan on the tank vs tank only thing.

Infantry is essential…they are the only team that can dig in and hold the ground. The tanks and other teams must remain mobile and are not meant to hold the ground. Infantry, with the appropriate anti-tank can cause a lot of damage to any tank platoon coming too close. Infantry is a must in any game!

Interesting

I think an all infantry force would be pretty effective, considering the amount of AT weapons they have as well as the AFV’s that bring them to the battle. I would be interested to play such a force.

infantry against infantry ok
infantry with out anti tank against BMP nope

I like how the vehicles don’t have to stay with the infantry. they can stay and provide extra firepower or go off and try to take out other targets.

The new assault rules look good, but it is a pitty, that Anders is rushing through the rules and making some “mistakes” <_< (at least it looks to me like he is doing something wrong, because I know the regular FoW rules)

I got that feeling too about it being a little rushed

Assaults should be pretty rare in a game and it’s good to see the mechanics geared towards making players really think twice before charging in
