Our Thoughts On Star Wars: Legion!

We sat down in our makeshift office to formulate some of our thoughts on the new Star Wars: Legion game that was announced by Fantasy Flight Games.

You can find our full impressions here: http://www.beastsofwar.com/star-wars-legion/coming-tabletop-ffg/

...make sure to let us know your thoughts below.

This is Great. I can be at the Con. I get to see all the cool stuff and none of the dross. I get to see exclusives. I can save my wallet for what I really want. No walking, pushing or sore feet. No racing out for a fag. No queuing for food. No reacting to artificial air. But best of all I get to hang out with you GUYS.

The SW IP is strong but somewhat in decline over the years. Toy sales and the likes are not as strong as they used to be. And the newer generations are more and more tied to a variety of IP’s. Furthermore there’s A LOT of SW IP’s out there and a lot of SW mini games under the same umbrella. Granted in space, on the ground. Skirmish, rpg and mass combat scales. But this does seem to overlap a lot with other games. And doesn’t do anything that exciting. Especially since all the cool Rebel toys are mostly in space.… Read more »

I agree. On the tabletop, X-Wing works because you are fighting a skirmish where the Rebels are fighting at a believable scale (because they could only scrape together those 2-3 fighters) and everything ends up being reasonably balanced because of it. But larger scale ground engagements are just not something the Rebels should be good at. Who knows, maybe this is reflected in the cards, with the rebels having more sabotage..y options while the Imperial forces have more cards directly related to influencing combat. However the clone wars era would have been a much better fit for this scale of… Read more »

If RuneWars is FFG’s take on the style of mass battle rank & file that WFB was, this looks to me to be their take on the style of sci-fi game that 40K is. Small units of troops in skirmish formation, powerful characters, vehicles, but with the FFG standards of movement templates, upgrade cards, stats expressed as dice with symbols rather than numbers, and so on.

It would be fantastic to re-create the battle of Kashyyyk, all those tanks rising out of the water, clone transporters… it looks really good. I’d like to know more of what they’re planning.

Really they made it a different scale as their existing SW game? Wow FF I thought GW was bad at gouging their fans but at least they make their new minis compatible!! If FF were a true miniatures company they’d be ripped for this.

The BoW site crashed on me the first attempt to make a comment on this one 😀
Anyway, I totally see Legion being a hit and flying off the shelves, especially if it catches the pre-Christmas market, but I am doubt it would eclipse Imperial Assault. A little disappointing it isn’t scale compatible with I.A. but then again, larger figures are just what the Sith ordered – Die Rebel scum! Except you Luke, no offence.

Release for Christmas pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
The potential for this is great – I’m already conjuring up the expansions they could do for it and drooling. And planning my gaming tables.

Sounds interesting, but I’ve not jumped at a Star Wars game since X-wing so I’ll put it in the wait and see column :).

Some nice ideas. I really like the mechanic where movement Is taken solely from the squad leader. You can move other troopers out of the way to lay down the template, because their position will be determined by where the boss ends up. Very clever.

I also like the fog of war idea, with random activations. Reminds of Bolt Action somewhat.

This game looks so awesome, the minis look great to. I dont mind the fact the minis dont transfer over as i completely agree with what you guys are saying about how these look.

Id love to see some bigger ground vehicles too, maybe some of the bigger walkers, very exciting times ahead. Ill definitely be leaving lots of hints if it does come out before christmas!!
