Sorin Joins The Ranks In The Upcoming Shadows Over Innistrad

As if the new planeswalker, Arlinn Kord, dual sided werewolf planeswalker wasn’t cool enough, we’ve just discovered that Sorin will be making a return in this upcoming Magic the Gathering set as well. Shadows Over Innistrad promises to feature loads of dark-inspired cards that are sure to be an inspiration for new decks.

Sorin is all about damage. His +1 alone is meddlesome with the ability of a card draw AND doing that much converted damage to players. This will make things very interesting in Commander, especially when you get into his other abilities- where his minus X ability does damage to a creature OR planeswalker and you get lifelink!

But if you really want to get crazy, and you can resist the urge to use the previously mentioned minus ability and you can save up for the minus 9, you can put a number of 1/1 vampire knight tokens with lifelink on the battlefield equal to the greatest number of life total among all players! Can you imagine the Commander swarm?!

mtg soi dual land

Ok, if the planeswalkers aren’t enough to cause players to drool, have a look at the dual sided land, Westvale Abbey! Yes, the text is not in English, but I couldn’t wait to share it based on the abilities explained…

  • Land (Rare)
  • {T}: Add {C} to your mana pool.
  • {5}, {T}, Pay 1 life: Put a 1/1 black and white Human Cleric creature token onto the battlefield.
  • {5}, {T}, Sacrifice five creatures: Transform and untap Westvale Abbey
  • “Ormendahl, Profane Prince”
  • Legendary Creature—Demon
  • Flying, haste, lifelink, indestructible
  • 9/7

A Land AND a Legendary Creature?! I cannot wait to hear more on this one. That’s a ridiculously handy card. I would have to imagine we’ll be seeing a lot more land removal to deal with a card like this in play.

Are you looking forward to the Shadows Over Innistrad?
