Mierce Back On Kickstarter For New Darklands Factions!

Mierce Miniatures are back on Kickstarter for Darklands: New Kindred to bring you three new factions for their dark fantasy world based on historical myth and legend. See what you think of the Jutes, Erainn and Atalantes...
The Atalantes are based on Greek and Roman designs and they have some really cool stuff sitting there already. I love their leader Kyros who certainly has a little bit of the Leonidas about him don't you think? They even get themselves a female leader (at least I think it's a woman) with Thera clad in some seriously cool armour. I love the fact they're going to get loads of bronze constructs too, very cool.
The Erainn are more Irish and Scottish in their design drawing on that Pictish look and feel which is very cool as well. I love their crazy hair and awesome cloaks, can't go wrong with a cloak. Their big creatures come in the form of swampy beasts and such which is ace. I did like the ones that came out for the Albion campaign for Warhammer Fantasy so it's neat to see similar creatures return.
Last but not least we have the Jutes who will be travelling across the land raising the dead and more to hold back their enemies. I really like their heroes and the undead aspect of their faction is amazing. I'm really not a big fan of their large beast but bring out more undead and I am very much on board with these fellows.
You may have read in our forums that Aragorn Marks has left Games Workshop and this is one of the projects he has engaged with now he is free from those shackles. He is an awesome sculptor and done some work for them in the past so it will be cool to see his work become a reality.
The artwork for this game is amazing and the amount of factions is growing incredibly quickly. Let's hope the actual game has as much staying power as the miniatures.

I have no idea who this Aragorn Marks is or what he has sculpted for GW.
I dunno, they look cool and all. But this is more of a glorified pre order then an actual kickstarter. Again.
Can you clarify what you mean by pre-order and actual Kickstarter? By my own understanding, a pre-order would mean that the product is there regardless of anyone buying it. Most of these minis don’t exist without the KS campaign to fund them. As an actual Kickstarter, by their own definition, is one that allows a creative project at any stage of the production process to be funded, regardless of whether the company is a new or existing, or the product line is new or existing, I’m not sure how this doesn’t count as an actual Kickstarter.
As GW have a tendency not to credit their sculptors it’s hard to know exactly what he did. He was hired back in 2011 to work on large plastic monsters, so there’s a good chance that he’s sculpted at least some of the ones that have been released since. He was one of the main sculptors for Rackham for a long time, and in between did freelance work on lines like Hordes, Relic Knights, and Darklands (which he has returned as Ben says).

My apologies for spamming up the comments lol. The Altar of Khaine from the last Dark Elves release is definitely one of his.
None of the stuff from the new kindreds has been sculpted yet (and won’t be unless the funds to do so are provided by the KS) so in that respect it’s not a pre-order
(although to be fair Mierce are allowing folk to order older pre-existing stuff, but there is clearly a demand for that from backers)

Also why are the Jutes an army of undead?
From what I have seen of Aragorn’s sculpts I hope he can refrain from putting muscles on muscles and keeping closer to the artwork which imho looks very good.
That was Rackham’s house style and Jean Bey was very strict on ensuring the sculpts were exactly right for the line. Could you look at the Chaos Cultists and figure out which two were sculpted by Aragorn? Or which of the Blindwater Congregation were his (if you didn’t already know)?

In the setting of the game, the Jutes are tied to the Isle of Wight.
Too busy filling novelty glass souvenirs with the polychromatic sands from Alum Bay.
That is how the needles were formed. By Jutes scratching away at the rocks and nothing to do with erosion.
After that is was off to Blackgang Chine to see the lights.
I feel like these minis should appeal (I’m of Gaelic descent and have always been interested in Atlantis) but they just don’t…not really sure why.
The poses and costumes of the Irish in the artwork are not that interesting IMHO
and the Atlanteans are pretty much just your classical Hellenes
True. I think that kinda extends to other factions in the range, almost a little lazy, e.g. the Fomorians seem to be mostly just beastmen.
