Real September 2011 Painting Comp Picture

I didn\'t like the lighting in the last picture so this has been resubmitted with all WIP to be found underneath. My idea was to take the barbarian from the game Hero Quest and give him a much bigger sword, courtesy of a LOTR troll.I wasn\'t a big fan of the base and I didn\'t want to risk clipping or sawing it away completely (my Hero Quest elf has no feet thanks to an earlier effort) so I decided to clip it only slightly and make it look like he\'s on a rock or something in the middle of a hellish environment.Just to add some importance I thought I\'d give him a cloak. For painting, I started with a base coat of tallarn flesh and worked up with a few layers and highlights of elven flesh. To add some definition, I added some ogryn flesh wash in very specific areas. This model was the first time for a few things for me, such as stubble (need more work) and freehand tattoos (decent I think)They were both done as a lightish grey. For the face I tried to add some colour by having blue under the eyes and a nasty red scar across one eye. Also a bit of a dark shade and pink added to the lips to stand out.Cloth and cloak was quite standard with a base of scorched brown and various additions of bestial/khemri or tau sept ochre to get the various shades.Hair was done with tau sept ochre as the first layer and then went up with more elements of sunburst yellow. It had a sepia wash to help make some strand stand out along side further highlights.Lastly, the sword and base I went for the lava line effect. With a very fine brush, I started with blood red and then kept on adding stronger and stronger volumes of sunburst yellow and even skull white for the final bits.
