Roland is quite the hero and he appears in a whole bunch of medieval texts and a saga too. He was part of the court of Charlamagne and not only had himself a legendary sword named Durendal but also a horse called Veillantif. The most iconic part of the miniature and his character however is the oliphant horn he blew at his death as a call for aid.
Quite the awesome character and I think this historical representation of him fits well with the stories and doesn’t romanticise him which is something we see of a lot of heroes from this time later on in history.
What do you think?
