Justin from Secret Weapon give us some hints and tips about working with Brass Etched Lettering.
@misterjustin – This might be a trade secret that you don’t wish to divulge, but I’ll ask just to see. How do you make brass etched work? It looks so fine and small.
I think it’s done like printed circuit, using light to mark the unwanted part of it and then dipped in an acid bath that eats said part away, could be wrong though bill
Just like that, in fact.
There is companies out there that will allow you to send them a design in a particular adobe illustrator format where it cuts away certain elements and thins other elements.
Some of the Golden Demon painters have custom sheets made for their project in this way, i think it works about around £30 per small custom sheet but i’ve never tried it myself, it requires alot of technical skill to get the file ready in an art package so the machine cuts it right.
Nice tip on the tape! Think I’ll use that for everything I take my craft knife too. My carpet must virtually be a bits box by now with all the stuff lost to the ‘ping’
For fine parts I do a lot of pre-taping just so I don’t lose them. That includes bits of tank as well as brass etch. I’ve had bits fly off of sprues never to be seen again.
