Fantasy Flight Games have announced that forty years since A New Hope hit big screens and thirty years since its original release that Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game is getting an Anniversary Edition.
“First published in 1987 by West End Games, Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game arrived at a time when the future of the Star Wars galaxy was uncertain. The original trilogy had been completed. There were no plans for additional films. It was as if a hundred million voices had cheered at the Rebellion’s triumph and then suddenly went silent…“
As we know today, the Star War universe spans several movies, cartoons, comics, games and much more, yet there is still plenty of exploration to be done.
The two book set comes as hardbound tomes that contain all the original game rules, information, and graphic design.
FFG has moved to a higher quality paper and you’ll find both books in a slipcase with original cover art but other than this the books remain largely unchanged from their predecessors.
With the Star Wars RPG Rules, you’ll be able to embark on your own “operatic space adventures“.
The system offers fast d6-based actions and comes with its own adventure “Rebel Breakout” to give you something to get stuck into immediately.
To support the creation of your personal part of the galaxy you’ll also get The Star Wars Sourcebook as part of the set.
The sourcebook gives you a huge amount of information to flesh out your own adventures from details on aliens, droids and capital ships to blasters, combat vehicles and of course lightsabers.
Details you’ll find in the sourcebook have actually become part of the Star Wars canon such as names for alien races like Quarren, Rodian and Twi’lek.
The section on “Designing Adventures” has also be cited by Pablo Hidalgo as inspiration for the core writing he developed for the Lucasfilm Story Group.
One of the few changes that you will find in the set is actually a foreword from Pablo Hildago which brings together the original Star Wars RPG and where we are now with our current appreciation of the Star Wars Universe.
You can pre-order the set now for its release in Q4 2017.
What role would you take on in the Star Wars universe?
