This little gem of a Kickstarter popped up online and I had to take a closer look simply because the main artwork for it was by Ben Wootten and I love his work! See what you think of Terminus Gate, a Sci-Fi skirmish game by Spider Monkey Games with a campaign and plenty of narrative it seems…
So what is the game?
“Terminus Gate is a skirmish level table-top game for 2 or more players. Each player creates their own crew, arming them and assigning each crew member a profession as they tackle fast-paced, high-risk missions against the backdrop of an immersive science fiction universe. The game is designed to allow players to keep track of their crews in an ongoing campaign, allowing the individual crewman to grow and develop over time.”
…anything that has campaigns, narrative and the ability to build your own crew over time sounds good to me. The game doesn’t even play on a board, although I’m sure you could make one, as it comes with cool tiles for you to fight your way across.
• Terminus Gate Rulebook (softcover)
• Core World Crewmen x4
• Marauder Crewmen x4
• Dice x10
• Crew Character Sheet Pad x1 (50 sheets)
• Quick Reference Card x2
• Contract Card Deck
• Hazard Card Deck
• Environment Card Deck
• Starship Tiles x50
• Door Tiles x35 (with stands)
• Effects Templates x3
• Objective and Effects Tokens
It certainly sounds like an awesome idea and the beginning two factions they’ve detailed look awesome too, you can see them above in the Core and Marauders. I love the Sci-Fi vibe they’ve gone with that draws on a lot of different inspirations from the likes of anime but they haven’t let that style things too much. There’s still a very ‘real’ look to the miniatures and nothing overly cartoony.
There are a bunch of other races and factions that are planned for the future if they get the stretch goals that they want and while a $50,000 goal seems a bit high its one that I hope they’ll get close to. I’m very much enjoying what I’m seeing here!
There have already been some Kickstarter exclusives shown off and you can see their models above. If the sculpting continues to be that good you’ve got yourself some cool looking sculptors already on the case for this game. Still, despite these fancy additions I think the basic crewmen are looking ace!
If you want to learn more they’ve added the rules to their Kickstarter page as a free PDF download AND there is a short gameplay summary to watch too.
See what you think!
