Osprey Work On Their First Board Game – The King Is Dead!

Osprey Publishing have been working on historical books for a long time now and have also branched out into rules for wargames too. This weekend however they got to announce their first board game project, The King is Dead!

The King is Dead

Some more about this intriguing game…

“The King is Dead is a board game of politics and power struggles set in Britain in the chaotic period following the death of King Arthur. For the good of the country, a leader must unite the Scots, Welsh, and Romano-British; not by conquest but by diplomacy. Players are members of King Arthur’s court. Whether a loyal knight, a scheming lord, or an ambitious noblewoman, you all have one thing in common: power. As prospective leaders, each player will use their power to benefit the factions, gaining influence among their ranks. The player with the greatest influence over the most powerful faction will be crowned the new ruler of Britain.”

The game is going to look a bit like RISK but apparently not play like other conquest games. It will be interesting to see how it all pans out and I am a really big fan of the Arthurian era and of course these kind of ‘dudes on a map’ games. I love the idea of area control and this already sounds like it has a very ‘euro’ feel to it too.

The game is going to have some nice wooden pieces and cards that art by the ever favourite Peter Dennis. This game is still a way off but hopefully we’ll get to see more of it soon!

Do you like the sound of this?
