Justin's Death Guard Army
Justin now wants to talk through some of the gaming in the gaps he's doing with his Death Guard from the Dark Imperium set. They are expanding beyond this now as he adds in some Heresy-era models...

With the new design of the Imperium, the rent torn across the middle of it, it opens up new possibilities and many of the Death Guard may still be wearing their old armour, free from mutation.

Why are you obsessed with what they have under their Cingulum (the Romanesque ‘dangly leather tabard’)?
I thought Space marines had no equipment in that area – they are just ‘space dollies’ after all. Or is that just Justin’s army post clipping… 😉
First big test of TTCombat’s evolution of Carnevale since they bought it off David at Vesper. I like what they’ve done to create a lot of quick buildings for the starter set – although I’d probably want to make up some roof units to get a better roofline. I can see why they’ve gone with Guild and Rashaar in the starter set, although the Doctors of the Ospedale and the Patricians together with the Guild always appealed to me in the first version as a game of inter human faction rivalry without the need for anything supernatural or alien. Glad to see the revamp of Carnevale is on the way. Looks like my vow to stay away from Kickstarter for the rest of the year will be sorely tested, especially if they put a starter bundle of the mdf terrain alongside the starter box.
I enjoyed Justin’s run through of the thinking behind his Death Guard army list. Is anyone at BoW doing something similar for the Imperium forces?

Well, that was a lot of 40K lol. The English or Latin plural of index and codex is fine, just be consistent :).
So index’s or codex’s over the whole ‘icies’ bit on the end!
Please tell me forums is ok over fora too (I really dislike the latter) 🙂
When a language borrows a noun from another language, it’s acceptable to pluralise it in either the original or the borrowing language. So indexes is fine, as indices. Forums is fine, as is fora. But if you say forums, then keep saying forums. If you say indices, then keep saying indices, and don’t say codexes if you say indices. Or ****ing 40k as I call it at the club and down the store.
I suspect it’s ruining a lot of peoples hobby right now as many supposed ex-GW gamers get tempted back by the new shiny, while those of us who’ve moved on from or out-grown ****ing 40k struggle to get a game or table space.
They’ll be back when they remember the agony of chain painting and are fed up with emptying their wallets on all the books, dice, markers etc. The grumbling has already started… I’ll wait!
I guess if we’re looking back to the beginning for beastsofwar.com, a lot of 40K content is somewhat appropriate lol

Indexes is the English plural Indicies is the Latin plural.

Tagen the GW Custodes came out and I explain the difference in armour designs to myself,
as “Legion” and “Artificer”. When they all then painted Gold and Red, they all appear to be
just variations within a common faction.

for Justins 40k Morale point, yes models that usually come in massive mobs have really low morale, but they all havea way around it. For example, tyranids, if they are withing synapse range, they automatically pass morale tests, Orks can make their leadership value equal to their unit size, or a nearby unit, and for Imperial Guard conscripts, if you have a commissar nearby, i think the most models you can lose from a morale test is 1. it basically demonstrates a strength in numbers approach, where the units would feel unstoppable in large numbers, but once they’ve been decimated,… Read more »
@warzan you’ll be happy to know that the Warp can indeed send ships back in time. Time is meaningless in the warp and there is no guarantee how long a journey will take. A journey of a couple of light years could end up taking centuries in real time or a couple of minutes, you may even find you’ve arrived at your destination before you left your point of origin!! I recommend you take a read of pages 144 -146 of the 6th edition rule book which goes into a good bit of detail about warp travel and mentions the… Read more »

This was the game where we pitted the fleet of “Admiral Warzan” against “Admiral Lloyd” in honor of the first hobby night live (Viking themed)
I love Carnevale, but never got started on my mid-sized haul from the previous Kickstarter. There’s a big demand for terrain, so getting some of this in an easy-to-use format in the two player set could give it more of a chance this time around. Good luck fellas!
Loved the show, I’m going for death guard too. I hope Justin realises that there is going to be a lot more death guard released in the next few months so there may be a few more things he wants to add! I love that they’ve referenced back the old mark 3 armour in the new plague marines and I’m sure that’ll continue in the new releases. Oh and Daemon Primarch Mortarion, woo! Cheers for the mention guys, just working on tile number 3…well I was until I ran out of dark earth paint… will post some pics with all 3 boards together and armies on when it’s done @dignity – not sure if your list going to work sir, have a few friends who play DG in 40k and they’re all complaining about not being able to take terminators any more (DG specific ones anyway). He can take them as he’s specified in the list they are just Chaos terminators. As long as everything in the detachment shares a keyword its fine, but you’re right in that they won’t be Death Guard terminators. We know there’s Death Guard terminators coming from the leaked photos so people will just have to be patient!
Chaos also has access to hellforged predators from 30k so pretty much everything from 30k can be used with the forgeworld index chaos list in 40k.
Oh yeah fully aware of the Hellforged stuff, however as the twin-las turret didn’t exist during the heresy I don;t think it’s an option (happy to be proved wrong though)
Yeah it is an option in the forgeworld index to replace the stock plasma destroyer for a twin lascannon. I’m guessing that since they’re ‘hellforged’ it represents the legions refitting their old equipment over time
Actually looking at the normal index chaos all chaos predators have the option to take twin las turrets (they just aren’t called executioner)
Talking of a return to 40K, I’m another ex 40K-er who is looking at a box of old minis and considering buying in to the new rules. Dipped my toe last month converting some Khorne Berserkers to possessed marines and my imagination got going again. Been looking up reviews and battle reports on line and I can feel the pull of Khornes rage gripping me again. I would love to see a Space Marine novel done with a similar story to the film with Kurt Russell called Soldier.
In the 40K universe, it is possible to enter the warp and come out at a time before you entered. I I believe are a few cases in novels where it happens but I don’t have any references handy. Funny @dignity (Justin) should mention the pre heresy death guard color scheme. I started my death guard in the exact same style and have a forum thread about it. Even got the first marines painted. Love the old style rather than the green style they use for 40k now.

I think there referring to the silly concept of ‘What you see us what you get ‘ or WYSIWYG when it comes to what particular model has in the way if equipment for use in a game. It sort of sounds like Wizzy Wig when you say it
