Wil Wheaton's Titansgrave campaign continues with a very different episode this week. Taking more of a backseat role the heroes must battle with their pasts and make some hard decisions. You can watch the episode above...
I've chosen one of the least spoilerific images from this episode above but I should note that the artwork for this particular part of the adventure is amazing. While not a very typical role-playing campaign it has been fun to see the heroes and their players develop over time and get attached to them.
The show has also been given a second season which means maybe we'll see things placed in the hands of the players a bit more in future.

I’ve never watched any of these episodes before. I thought they would be about role playing but it seems it was Wills private recital video.
I am glad this has come up on Beasts of War, I felt that I could not comment on the Geek and Sundry site because of the universal praise it gets there. I am an avid role player. I have enjoyed Titansgrave. However, I regard it as improvised drama with a scripted narrator, rather than a filmed example of a role playing game. What they did in this episode isn’t even roleplaying for the simple reason that there was no roleplaying taking place. Will just told everyone what they felt, what they did and what happened. I have no idea what Will is like in other episodes but I get the impression he really likes himself and his page long narratives. Perhaps he should write a book instead of doing this?
It is a very, very, very different beast – Titansgrave. It is a shame that it has to be more scripted to fit into the structure of episodes for the series. Critical Role is better in my opinion too – just has more role-playing in it.
Still, as a ‘concept’ and a story it is quite fun to watch – I don’t know how good it was to be there heh.

I like Will normally this series has been painful. He’s a crap GM. Maybe it’s because the series has been edited to death but his pacing and exposition is far, far to slow and boring.
This episode was just him going “look at me I can write fanfiction” and stroking his own ego.
Critical Role might be rough round the edges but pisses all over Titans Grave from a great hight.
Wil did not write the portal dream sequences, apparently his son Ryan wrote them in a 48 hours writing marathon. As for the whole of Titans Grave, if this is the only episode you’re watching… it;s time to watch Episode ONE first. Yes, they are following a very ‘scripted’ story, then again that’s what all DM’s are ultimately creating. If the story feels very “free” it’s often also very loose and not engaging for the players, encouraging goofy behavior in order to entertain oneself or the party. I have watched all of them. And I find Wil to be lacking as a GM. As I said earlier, his delivery of the exposition is slow and uninteresting. Throughout the series it has felt almost as if he can’t make stuff up quick enough to react to what people do. Which is fair enough, not everyone is cut out to be a GM. Yes all GMs have a set series of events that they want to happen, but the GM isn’t the only person playing. Dictating what people are doing and how they are feeling, is a very poor… Read more »
My son joined me midway watching ep 8, and then sat down and asked a ton of questions. He’s 9. He then asked to watch from the beginning. I of coarse obliged and now he’s interested in roleplaying games. He even wants a T-shirt with ‘5 Gold & a Party’ on it. Love the show! I recently started AoS with him and he’s loving that, even building units and painting with me. I never expected him to get into RPG’s, at least not old school tabletop as opposed to video games. I’d suggest trying him with Critical Role but the language can be a bit mature. It’s streamed live amd then put on youtube ( though you have to go to the critical role part pf geekandsundry to get to the hidden ones. It’s a brilliant example of how role playing games work.
I’ve been watching from the beginning and over all I’ve liked it. It is a bit railroady but a surprising number of players prefer to just be told a story, video game style, rather than have real choices. It’s something I’ve struggled with as a GM over the years. That said, this episode was painful to watch. I can’t tell if the narrative was supposed to make sense in any greater sense or was just a random jumble of imagery designed to seem “deep”.
I was disapointed by Titansgrave but my expectations were way too high (big fan of tabletop)…

I think there are 2 things wrong with it….
1) Wil has made it his baby…as in his story, his narrative, his everything and the players are really only there to quip with him.
2) the table and couch suck…everyone looks uncomfortable. hoping for a higher table and chairs for next season.
Exactly. Wil is constantly saying. “You do this.” “You feel that.” “You go there”
And if they don’t want to then tough, they’re doing it. Because Weaton says so.
Titans Grave is just one big Weaton ego stroking.
