The folks at Creative Assembly appear to be very busy at the moment with all manner of big projects coming soon. The first of these is one that I’m sure that many of you will know of as Total War: Warhammer II welcomes the Tomb Kings tomorrow (January 23rd).
The new race gets added into the mix against the likes of the Skaven, Lizardmen, Dark Elves and High Elves, plus if you have Mortal Empires then they join the rest of the Old and New World in a titanic struggle for control of the Warhammer Fantasy world. You can check out the announcement trailer for them below…
The Tomb Kings bring some dangerous new monstrous creatures into the mix, many of which you’ll be familiar with if you got to play the army in 8th Edition.
Undead armies always pose a very different challenge from other forces, and even then, the tactics that you’ve learned with the Vampire Counts will need to be rethought as you look towards this new faction. They have powerful magic, massive war machines and more at their command. The maps you’ll be fighting them in look stunning too.
Thrones of Britannia
Another of the big releases recently was concerning the new Saga game, Thrones Of Britannia. This focuses the attention towards particular theatres of war and periods, in this case, the Viking invasions of Britain and the fight back against them by Alfred The Great.
You will have access to many of the great Kingdoms of Britain during the period as you seek to fight against the forces of the Vikings descending from the North.
There will, of course, be plenty of inter-kingdom bickering and such to deal with as the British all seek to claim ownership over this fair isle.
It looks like this one is going to be a lot of fun, especially with SAGA II being released soon by Studio Tomahawk. Maybe you’ll be able to dive into this and use it as an excuse to play around even more in Dark Age Britain. Once again, we have another trailer for you to check out below too…
I think most of us within the BoW community would be happy to learn more about this game in particular and see how it grows.
Total War: Three Kingdoms
Last but not least we have the announcement about the next BIG Total War game (well, they are all quite big!). This was the news that we’re getting Total War: Three Kingdoms.
Heading East, you will be taking control of one of these Ancient Kingdoms from Chinese history and fighting to assert your dominance over the land. Those familiar with the Dynasty Warriors franchise might spot a few familiar faces – although of course Three Kingdoms will give them a decidedly more realistic portrayal!
Here in the trailer below, we see three warriors, Liu Bei, Zhang Fei and Guan Yu, doing battle with the forces of Dong Zhuo who has taken control.
…and yes, that is Lu Bu fighting against them too. It will be nice to get an entirely different narrative and look at war on the tabletop from this perspective.
With that in mind, what are you most looking forward to from Total War this year? We have a bit of Fantasy thrown into a mix of Historical gameplay which might even get folks creating new armies on the tabletop too.
What do you think?
