Do you want to know how Darrell uses his mighty Arjac unit? Well, first he gives him a drop pod… that might help… but is there more?
I take 1 drop pod and use it for misdirection. I won a game against Tyranids by doing that with my wolves. I only had a grey hunter squad in it, but being shot from behind makes you turn around and go the other way, while my rune priest and everything else is shooting you in the back. Classic sandwich play I guess.
i would take 2 in my BA army put them on either flank of my opponent 1 with say some vanguard vets without jump-packs and the other with some kind of dread then send my baal pred and assualt marines up the middle but i proberbly shouldnt give away my tactics incase my main opponent sees this
Guess it depends on the type of battle your fighting, if you arent counting killpoints, a empty drop pod can be some cover for something a bit more expencive… I havent used any yet tho i might get one for my wolves, just to get something forward to disrupt, seeing as im using a footslogger list…
@darrell would you ever consider getting a land raider for your wolf guard terminators ? and Arjac costs about 100+ more points than a normal wolf guard so what’s that good about him ?
you cant pick him out in a combat for one so he can survive longer and has a few special rules that make him a bit of a boss.
I’m considering either 2 combi-melta and 2 combi-plasma terminators and a cyclone missile launcher termi, all with power swords in a basic land raider or 5 termis , all with storm shields, 2 with chainfists and 3 with wolf claws footslogging.
And then i get the dilema of using a heavy support choice for the raider that i could be using for long fangs. Or because it’s a dedicated transport for the wolf guard termis does it not take up the slot ?
Hi Darrel. Exellent vidio, well presented as always.
Just one thing though,It is DEPLOYMENT STRATEGY not TACTICS! If it involves force composition or deployment it is STRATEGY. If it is in game chioces, eg target selection, movement options etc, its tactics.
40k has a heavy strategic bias, and some gamers prefer this. Please stop miss labeling strategic options as ‘tactics’, as it can add to the confusiuon when discussing the game.(Especialy when comparing 40k to other game systems.)
I am aware most 40k/WHFB forums are guitly of posting strategic tips under the guise of ‘tactics ‘ . But as B.O.W is such a high profile and well respected ‘guideing light’ in the gaming community.I respectfully ask you are more precise with the naming of your exelent gaming tips videos. If B.O.W. get it right , I am sure others will follow…
@lanrak – I understand what you mean. However, players using search engines look for “tactics”, which is why most websites will use that term.
The blame for sloppy grammar lies with the end user I’m afraid… supply and demand…
However @lanrak could be onto somthing here, perhaps we should be making the end user more aware of the difference mmmmm
That’s going to be one to mull over, do we take a hit on search traffic now to try and differentiate between the two, or do we do it a bit later on.
Definitely a tip we shouldn’t dismiss, but timing of it’s implementation is important.
take a chill pill pal, take a chill pill
No problem. Its your site, and your chioce obviously…
If the only game they play is 40k.Then letting them believe ‘exploiting’ poorly defined rules, and unballanced army lists is ‘tactics, ‘ doesnt realy matter…
However , just imagine the problems they will have when encountering other wargames where tactical decision making and strategic planning are equaly important. And ‘explioting’ poorly defined rules and unballanced army lists becomes a redundant skill set….
I am just saying 40k is a ‘strategy battle game.’(Heavy focus on list building and deployment.) So why not call strategy, ‘strategy’ . Rather than mis-labeling it.(To pretend 40k has more tactics than it actualy has?)
Its just gamers learn from your informative videos, so correctly defineing strategy and tactics in your vidoes would be preferable.
Why not list the articles under the heading ‘Tactics and Strategy for 40k.’ And make it clear what tips are ‘strategic’ and which ones are ‘tactical’. At least when everyone finds them, they would KNOW the difference between tactics and strategy.
Which would be a MASSIVE help to the wargaming community in general…(IMO.)
(Having spent the last two decades having to re-educate 40k players so they can enjoy the wider wargaming hobby at our games club, makes me acutely aware of how important the correct definition of tactics and strategy is.)
AN APOLOGY! I didnt meant to cause offence in my last post. I have just read it, and realised the line.
…’exploiting’ poorly defined rules , and unbballanced army lists… Sound a lot more abrasive than I intended.
I was struggeling to find a quck way to define the tips that often get mis labeled ‘tactics.’ I dint mean to imply all 40k tactics were this, or Darrels exelent tips were this either!
I couldnt find an edit button. And even if I did I still have not found a replacment sentance shorter than.
… devising ways of utilising the rules as written in an aventageous way,or optimising the synergy of the army composotion in a way not expected or intended by the game developers….
I hope you know what I was trying to say, and not take offence at my poor use of words, as non was intended.
I was imply struggeling tp
i destroyed a 2 guard units with the deathwind launcher inside a drop pod because the player kept forgetting about the drop pod firing large blast
i have also destroyed tons of vehicles with multi melta dread poppin out
