The new boxed set that we've been seeing some amazing pictures of over the last week is now available from Games Workshop for Warhammer 40,000 giving you an alternative way to play in this grim dark universe. The Set!
Inside the set it looks like you're getting one hell of a cool out of the box experience where four assassins are taking on a Chaos cult led by a Sorcerer in Terminator Armour...
...and hopefully this could be a good avenue for Games Workshop going forward where they bring out board games like these where you can play scenarios.
The Assassins
As well as the actual boxed set there's the new Assassins that are of course the focal point of it all. They are here as part of the Execution Force boxed set and then most likely out as separate clamp packs later down the line.
I think of the lot of them the new Vindicare continues to look the coolest with his bad ass sniper rifle. Next to him I think I'm in the camp of the Culexus Assassin who will be frying your mind.
All of the models actually don't look too bad although it might have been nice to see them without the scenic bases just to allow them to fit into a range of different settings.
Will you be picking this up?

Currently not playing 40K but as a fan of the setting and scenario-based games i’ll definitely pick it up and the novel to boot!

I try to make a distinction between the narrative and the admin.
For example my love for alien remains unaffected by the latest collectors box of the year.
Are you in Australia cause its looking like it will be $124usd when it goes up in the US. Atleast thats what the retailer I use is showing its msrp as tho hes got it for just under$100 with free shipping. If you are then sorry, they seem to really screw you. Not that $124 is cheap but its alot cheaper than $210.

Seeing they still have Space hulk in store for sale for $190 I don’t think they’ll be selling out any time soon.
I was talking myself into spending $120 or so for the game. Then I got the email saying $210 (AUD) — it was the easiest “no” to something I really wanted ever! $210 for a board game? That hasn’t been reviewed by Dice Tower or anyone so I have no idea whether it plays well or not (ahem Dreadfleet)? It is a little ridiculous, especially when I think I could get two other premium quality board games for the same total price. I guess no one will be buying up four or five of these games, just to get the cheap mini’s that were inside, like that Warhammer game a long time ago. Can’t remember what it was called, but I still have a few of those figures in my bits drawers.
I would love it if GW returns to making these sort of games but They need to keep supporting them which like with the re-release Space Hulk I don’t think they plan on doing for this game.

Where it this $210 taken from??? It’s £75 in UK so if dollar to pound rate is not 3:1 (almost) then why would it be so much more expensive in US? Unless that is the exchange rate but then I’m going to do big shopping ASAP!

Aside from the callidus assassin I like the mini’s, although I personally don’t think they are better than the old minis. The lack of interesting opposition minis and basic board components are the factors that mean I won’t be buying this one. The rules I am not fussed about as it was likely to be fodder for 28 mm inquisition project.

I was so excited when I heard this was coming out. It looks amazing and sounds amazing. It appears games workshop is going back to its roots and releasing games and diversifying the 40K universe. What a pity they are still showing gamers such contempt by ripping the ar53 out of it by charging a ridiculous price. I.e. I will not now be buying this as it is about 25 quid over what it should be. God damn it GW. The idea is you sell things like this on a slim profit margin, to entice new and returning players into playing 40K. Not price shock every potential customer away.
I find $210 a fairly insulting price if Im honest, especially compared to the value of Space Hulk.
I pre-ordered with a 25% discount through LGS but I cant understand how GW think this price is okay?

Sadly too expensive for me, but if they sell the assassins seperately I’d probably pick the Culexus up and convert it into a “fallen” assassin to join my Necrons. Shame they got rid of Pariahs really, he’d look good leading a squad.
I was looking at this and thinking, this is looks like a great way to get back into 40k. Seen the price and just wiped that smile right off my face. Shadows of brimstone was way less than this, and I’ve received about 2 twenty pound boxes and about 100 more little add-ons coming soon. Hell, even Kingdom Death’s Monster was much cheaper than this and there’s a hell of a lot more in that box with high(er) quality minis. I don’t get this, they are out of their mind.
I would had actually picked this one up if GW had attempted to sell the poduct without calling me an idiot in the process. Not many customers would under those circiumstances i think.
Low box content for price asked, no 3d doors, mediocre assassins stuck to huge terrain peices, no mention of future expansions, price again is a joke. This is why its hard to have any high thoughts about GW these days.
I have taken distance from GW for a long time, but this concept interested even me in the beginning.

Way over-priced. GW doesn’t seem aware of what other companies now offer for that sort of money. Sigh…
Have to agree £5 more would get you the Spartan Halo fleet battle starter, £15 less the Dropzone starter, or for about the same the two player warmachine/hordes starters. Or to match up against board games – Anything from FFG including the big beasts or potentially 2 games or game and expansion. Which is why I was expecting new adversary models and some spacehulk level components.
The other way to look at it is these would probably £15-16 in blisters if released separately – so if your comfortable with that price then this is probably not a bad deal.
I should clarify and even apologise. $210 Australian, approx £108 based on current exchange rates. Of which approx $94AU mostly existing chaos miniatures. I agree with @brennon the new Vindicare is great. I prefer this Culexus to the old one. The Eversor is ok, don’t like the Callidus. I already have an old metal Vinicare and Callidus. I’d buy the other ywo on their own. I’m sure the boards will be great, I love that stuff. I can’t see how much replay value this game could have. This is another limited edition board game from GW that is meant to make people buy it with it’s limited edition status alone. Least with Space Hulk is was about re-releasing beloved game.
I guess this game is made in very, very small numbers. The price tag points toward GW aiming at an absolute hardcore enthusiast consumer circle.
I doubt this will ever see a 2nd print run. Space Hulk is a legend they wont deliver a second time, surley not with games like this one.
Looking at what competitors offer, GWs offer looks pretty poor. That price might be ok if every single mini would be a special scuplt, but this way ? Never.
I wonder if GWs buisness is still declining. With products sold like this it must be.

Apart from being a great sniper the Vindicare is also famous for being able to finger tap his own kneecaps while standing up straight.The others have a habit of calling him “monkeyboy” wich is why he mostly likes to hang in the background, leaning against a huge portable stone pillar.

I’ve no interest in this type of game, regardless of who makes it or how much it costs. However, the new assassins look interesting. A bit of a mixed bag, but they always were. Some of the design and ideas behind Imperial assassins are far more interesting an distinctive than others.
Pick of the bunch for me is the Culexus. A brilliant, Giger inspired design and a lovely new sculpt. Hopefully, the new minis will be available in individual packs soon.
I hate to be a nay sayer but the vindicare’s legs look slightly stumpy and his left arm longer than his right. Will it be a hit I hope so for a lot of reasons. I have more than a soft spot after all for GW.But today I just watched the Salute Vlog and played gizzit with the better half and there was far too much incredible stuff on there to be worried about this box game.

The sculpt sucks ! Looks at his giant fingers on the gun oO the other Asses are nice though.
Also look at his clown shoes.
He is so badly sculpted it is funny.
I’ve kept and will continue to keep an open mind on this until the gameplay reviews come in, but catching up with the box contents now my feeling is very much the same. There was so much stuff at Salute which was more appealing than this, and that’s without getting into the price.

4 Assassins, 15 Chaos Cultists, 3 Space Marines, a Chaos Familiar and a Chaos Space Marine Terminator Sorcerer… 10 models indeed. Nakamura Tower give you 21 for £66. Huge difference it is not.
