Darrell gives us advice on what you can do, when you hold your special weapons back in the second rank, during an assault.
I’m confused. There aren’t ranks in 40k and the examples you showed (fist in front and behind) were the same.
Get some new dice!
I think a little rule naming may have helped here, quoting multiple combats in relation to the IC.
I knew what was going on …
The only reason you wouldn’t squish the character is if your looking ahead for something the next turn, but 9 times out of 10 he will be squished, thats why I don’t rate my dark angel leader Azrael lol
Darrel, the sergeant doesn’t have to worry about getting killed so just put him in the front with the character. Remember that only models directly in base contact with an IC may strike it. A regular SM sergeant isn’t an IC. So the sergeant only benefits from being in the front with his powerfist as he can’t be targeted directly as IC would.
You only put ‘em in the back to give you a choice of who to hit in multiple combats ICs attached to grunts are sort of a multiple combat, but you’re gonna want to use the powerfist against the character 99 times out of 100, unless you think it can do more damage to the grunt unit- say the IC has eternal warrior and a high invulnerable save- in order to win the combat on the resolution score then you can just escort the fleeing IC and the remnants of the unit off the board to prevent them regrouping.
