They’re new for Warhammer 40K 6th Edition… they’re new for the Chaos Space Marine Codex. But will the kits stand up to the hype or are they just for Chaos Space Marine fans?
I want to like the fiends, I like the models but I just don’t think they look like they belong in the chaos marine range, Maybe that’ll change in time when other stuff gets re-done though. The rules are pretty good actually, but if it really comes down to it, its in the same slot and the shooty one is about the same points as a defiler, or you can take two autocannon and heavy bolter predators, or two units of flamer toting havocs(see how much your local IG player likes his vets behind his aegis line then). The close combat version, I can see being quite good against other close combat walkers or with lasher tendrils units with many attacks each and no krak grenades like the axe wielding terminators Andy seems to like so much or eldar and dark eldar- keep it away from the fire dragons a lot though, and its WS seems a bit low for a dedicated close combat walker, so practically every marine and even guard officers and ogryns(though they can only hurt it on a charge) are hitting it on a 3+.
I actually think the aesthetic really fits chaos, big demon engines. Perhaps they just fit too well in an iron warriors army to the exclusion of other legions and renegades. I think that criticism fits the heldrake better.
when i 1st saw this i just thought WTF was gw thinking but its grew on me i still cant stand the look of the dinos face or the hades autocannons. ive got 1 which be made ranged with the 3 plasmas and will more than likely getting another 1 for melee but will use a demon princes head so it looks a bit more like the demondog from ghostbusters
Dinobots Attack! And isn’t ectoplasma from Ghostbusters? kidding. But I am not a fan of these from a modeling standpoint, their rules seem pretty decent even if they are a little points expensive. IMO with some small alterations they seem they would fit in a Demons army more than a CSM. I do like them better than the Heldrake model but once again IMO i feel they are a tad expensive considering there really isnt that many extra bits.
The thing is, how good do the rules have to be to convince you to take a model in your force that you don’t like the aesthetics of? And spend time putting together and painting etc.?
Speaking personally, the rules could make something the best miniature on a tabletop since sliced bread (known for its awesome rules) and I still wouldn’t be convinced to buy it. But, I guess that point is different for each of us.
I agree. I would never buy a model I didn’t like the look of, I don’t care how good the rules are. But I am I guess a modeler 1st and a gamer 2nd. I don’t like these and I really don’t like the Heldrake. I have been a fan of chaos ever since I borrowed the 2 Realms of Chaos books from my friend so many years ago. (I wish I could get my hands on those again.) I’m kinda disappointed in most of the new chaos models. I hope the new Warriors of Chaos are better.
Not digging the Dinobot vibe either tbh I am also in the Aesthetic camp.
Can think of a whole lot of other plastic I could get for my 40 quid too.
To be fair, everyone is crying about Oblit’s losing the ability to constantly plasma cannon–this gives you three plasma cannon shots a turn for 25 points less.
Yeah, but Oblits get a 2+ save when they over heat, rather than the 4+ of vehicles and three failed overheat saves leaves you with two obliterators, were the Forge fiend is scraped.
I’m in the minority in actually liking these models I think, I’m not sure about the third ectoplasma cannon being the same as the other ectoplasma cannons so it not longer has a face but this is chaos I guess…
The rules for both seem okay, I’d probably go with the forgefiend myself.
