Darrell discusses how characters should set up for close combat in Warhammer 40K.
Lone TDA guy can move up to 6″ that is mostl ikely gonna get him within 2″ of the guy in basecontact with the IC.
No he can’t because its possible for him to get into base contact, you have to move to base contact if you can in preference to getting into 2″ of a model of its own unit in base to base contact.
I think the Blood Angels could have tied up all the terminators base to base.
Quick question, when your IC is doing the assualting with the squad and isn’t the nearest, wouldn’t it be tactically better to position him during the movement phase behind the line of front men so hes less likely to be base contact with enemy? Because that would stop the enemy being able to attack him? or is that not allowed?
I do know its not very honorable lol
The thing is, an IC can only fight in close combat if he’s in base contact rather than within 2″, so it would be better to place him as darrell has.
In some cases the friendly models even HAVE to make room for the IC trying to get into B2B contact (see RB-FAQ 1.3, p3) You could even argue, that this is also the case and intended for the regular assault move.
Very good tip, Darrell!
Mind you that is only if your being assaulting, I was thinking more to when your the making the assault
The IC must be in base to base to be assaulted and to assault. After the nearest to nearest moves the IC has to move and he can move through his pwn guys And if there is a enemy IC he or she has to try to get into base to base with the enemy IC. Its possible for them to be positioned in the movement phase far enough back that its becomes impossible for them to get into the combat. Its not cowardly for a Sanguinary Priest to hold back to keep the squad alive. But It would be cowardly for the Emperor’s Champion not to get into the fight. But when the defenders fall in the IC has to move into base to base with the assaulting IC if possible. They only have to put one attack against them however.
Ah so the IC can’t attack unless hes in base contact because hes not part of that unit?
IC is separate unit for combat purposes, unless he’s got a retinue and then he’s treated as an upgraded character, (like a sergeant in troop squad) and only becomes IC when retinue killed.Bear in mind most IC go first in combat because of iniative so work out how many you think your IC will kill before charging.
Just a note it’s no longer closest to closest, only the nearest model engages the nearest enemy model the rest are free to engage whoever they like as long as as many models as possible are engaged.
