Epic Warhammer 40K Imperial Knights Rules Hit!

Games Workshop have released their pre-orders for the Imperial Knight Codex on their webstore so you can now go over and get a very cool looking book for your very awesome looking Imperial Knights. I don't care what other people think, these are ace!
Inside, from the Games Workshop website...
- A comprehensive history of the Imperial Knights from the Horus Heresy to the Time of Ending.
- Inspiring heraldry and history of a number of major Knightly Houses.
- Informative background information concentrating on two patterns of Knight suit; the Knight Errant and the Knight Paladin.
- Full rules for fielding a detachment of Imperial Knights as a force in Warhammer 40,000, or as an allied detachment to an Imperial force.
I like that last bit. 'Rules for fielding a detachment of Imperial Knights as a force'. So, I can have an entire army of these things? If that wasn't enough there is also a bit of background fluff for you to delve into.
If you'd like to delve into the background and narrative of these gigantic beasts then you can pick up this novella, Knights of the Imperium, by Graham McNeill. I love these kind of things accompanying releases as it gives an extra dose of history to proceedings. Also, Graham McNeill is an ace writer so it should be fun.

You can read about knights in Mechanicum, by Dan Abbnett IIRC fron the Horus Heresy series, and quite a good read if you ask me.
Still no way I’m paying that preposterous price tag for a 32mm plastic kit AND a coDex on top of that.
A codex for a single multipart build set?
I’m sure the kits look cool but I would rather buy something off forge world, plus the supplements supply rules for a wider range of models and kits.
@brennon Yes you can field between 3 – 6 as a primary detachment, or add up to 3 as an allied contingent to an imperium army.
Interesting thing is they aren’t a Lord of War choice, which means in escalation you could take 3 of those + a baneblade variant of some choice if you wanted O.o
I thought there was going to be something about Epic 40k because of the title lol.

Yes but people will buy this. I will buy this and enjoy it.
Within a short period of time you will have to buy it again. TBH I will probably enjoy the fluff more than I enjoy the Space Marine fluff, because I have not read it 5 times over. That does not justify the cost though.

Is it true that Codex: commisar bionics will only be available as a leather bound, gold trimmed special limited edition with a resin skull on the cover?
As something like a Baneblade, a single big model, I think it works very well. But as an ‘Army’ I don’t see it at all.

I think if somebody just wanted to splash out on three of these and run them as an army it would be good fun. Training excersize if nothing else.
A whole book for just those is a bit iffy but most will happily buy it. As with most things speak with your wallet. I probably won’t grab one of these for a while as I would rather get a nice Lord of War for some armies for the same cost or go a bit nuts on a bigger lord of war from FW for some armies.
Not parting my money for a codex of one model. Thats just nuts!
The book is only 64 pages long for £25.
Im sure there are books with only 32 pages for 50, so thats cheap! 😉
£150 for my leather bound vision’s of heresy, its stunning.
Will they bring out the other two wasn’t their four version’s.
Don’t forget the companion book only 45 quid bargain. ???
If anyone fancies buying 3 of these and the codex, I would say…save the money and a get a Warhound titan 😉

I can see the appeal of them but in choosing these or a Titan and the relevant FW Literature I know which way I will most likely go.
@number32 A FW titan will go brilliantly with your Horus a Heresy army. An Imperial Knight will go perfectly with my 40k stuff 🙂
Regardless of the price and intention of a “single model” for a codex, it’s a beautiful kit. Can’t say I’d justify £85. That’s £100 for the model and the codex. Although, I’m hoping that they include all the different variants that I’d read about. I think there are 5-7 different types with different skill sets. For example, one made for absolute range combat like a Rifle Dread, and also for close combat. Perhaps they’ll later release a kit to include these different variants. But it’s still a brilliant model kit, I’ve seen a video review and my ONLY disappointment aside… Read more »

Just picked one up today. I opened the box, saw the shoulder pads and thought dang this thing is big and gaudy and I like it. Now I am thinking I’ll paint it with Death Wing paint scheme and Caliban green trim , jump terminators in and cover them from the other side of the table with my knight. If nothing else it will look cool and hopefully lay down some awesome fires for the points. I agree they should have a better selection to make all variants in the codex, I guess it comes down to magnets and swaps… Read more »
Codex Daemon prince would be nice, than i dont need other stuff to go with it.
That being said, i wont be suprised that the supplemental for IG will be something along the lines of Armoured companies, tanks cost more than a basic infantry box afterall.
as armys go you are saveing alot if you going to one with 3 to 6 of em £25 for the book + £85 per Knight (if you have a look on the net i bet you can save some too ) so say you doing a 4 Knight army thats £340 +the £25 for the box now if you are looking to do a full IG army you are looking at £1000+ and that can move into £2000+ if you go into the FW bits so £365 for army is not bad PS i cant w8 to see what… Read more »
Isnt this exactly the type of thinking GW is hoping for when they raise their prices?
Rumour has it FW are doing some kits for it including Chaos variants. Not sure how much weight there is with that.
