Darrell has a cool strategy for using Heroic Intervention to land in a ruin and assault up the floors to get at the enemy!
Space Marines and Blood Angels are not the only people who get to do this, Orks do as well with Zagstruck and the Da’ Vulcha Boyz
This is a good tactic, but you can’t deepstrike where you did, because you measure the distance between models in ruins differently. For unit coherancy, and determining which models are engaged in an assault, you measuring the distance from the top of the lower model to the base of the higher models base, so where you deepstruck in the ruins you would have been within an inch of an enemy model and need to roll on the deepstrike mishap table. This is all explained under the ruins rules, specifically under “Unit Coherency” on page 82, and “Ruins and Assaults” on page 85 of the main 40k rulebook. If anyone has a different interpretation of the these rules please post.
Like I said though this is a good tactic, you just need to DS a little further away from the enemy. Love these tactics videos, keep them coming!!
Actually he can land there- it’s hard to see from the perspective of the video, but there’s at least an inch between a marines head and a base on a level above with those ruins.
One thing I would correct though, the terrain test isn’t dangerous for landing in that particular ruin- its not on a base so its lowest level is taken as being clear terrain,(page 82 ruins without bases) but they do have to take the difficult test to charge through the floor needing a 3 or more(as you need to be able to make the full distance to move vertically or there’s no movement) then the whole unit is in, and this test is only difficult, not dangerous, as they don’t use the Jump packs to charge(page 52, assault). It can fail a third of the time leaving you wide open to whatever is in the ruin’s shooting, so its a great tactic when it works.
Yeah I love these guys, although they can get expensive very quickly. I prefer Zagstruck though – more direct and more fun
