I quite like the look of the new Knights from Games Workshop and I think they're actually some of the best looking pieces to of modern memory, Adeptus Mechanicus aside. The thought of these huge walkers with the added pageantry of yesteryear on the battlefield makes Warhammer 40,000...well...more like Warhammer, which is great.
Books & Cards
There's also the addition of both the new Codex which (hopefully) is thicker and more jam packed with Knightly goodness. The Paladin and Errant have been joined by the Gallant, Warden and Crusader above with full rules on top of a new way of making Household Detachments and Oathsworn Detachments. There are also new formations for your walking castles.
You can't do much without Datacards anymore in Warhammer 40,000 either so make sure to grab those too.

So remember back in the day when you had to “imagine” the greater battlescape of titans and millions of guards hurling themselves at the walls of destruction?
No, not really. Because ‘back in the day’ we had EPIC, and Space Marine, and before that Adeptus Titanicus.
Looks like they did a great job of it this time.
I’m sorely tempted, but got to keep the powder dry, I hear the rumoured 30K launch isn’t too far off. Will it be timed with the opening of Warhamer world is the question!
Don’t get me wrong, I think that the Knight model is brilliant, and the new options does in no way change this; but I am a bit disappointed that the Warden and Crusader are now just variants of the Errant/Paladin and not based on a different chassis.
Not so much the Knights that go Ni as the Knights with extra Dakka – the sheer amount of firepower a Knight Crusader can amass is really rather brutal. Overall, still a great kit, but now with extra options… and still with that GW price tag, but to be fair a kit this size and quality is always going to cost a pretty penny whoever produces it. Still, I imagine it would be worth it for the amusement factor to be had in tossing vehicles and monstrous creatures about like empty ration cans alone. I think my poor bugs are… Read more »
40k is getting more and more like Epic Space Marine every day.
But without the space on the table top ,or the rule set to make it a fun experience IMO.
Nice kit for display though.

Having bought the first knight and its codex, I am a bit annoyed with GW for releasing a new codex so soon after the first one. Was willing to forego that though and get one of the new knights until I saw the price. £95 is a bit of a leap from the current kit and that is an investment too far for me. Sorry GW, great model but I can’t justify that much when I can get entirely new game systems and extra models for a lot less. Time to move on from 40k?
Move on, mate! I gave up on 40k and GW, started Bolt Action and Malifaux and have not been looking back! Better rules, more fun to play and cheaper!

The new knight looks great, in my opinion, and the new codex looks like it might have enough units in it to justify publication. I can see why people who bought the last one would be annoyed though. I don’t think it was ethical for GW to have brought that one out in the first place. Even if they didn’t have plans even then to expand the Knights range, 2 units didn’t justify a whole new hardback book.
Absolutely right there, but then as is quite clear GW ultimately don’t care, they know there are more than enough punters out there to buy the new book, even though they probably already have the old one.
They’ll print 5,000 or 10,000 of them at a cost of about £30,000 and at a retail of £125,000-250,000. Kerching.

Nope, I’m not buying into this. Releasing a new book – and still only with a single unit in it – so soon after the first is just crazy. As is the price. Do you have any idea what kind of scale model I could get for that kind of money?
Even if the new Knights have been popular, can they really justify an update for a codex that is only one year old? But then again Eldar got a new codex after only two years and it looks like the Adeptuc Mechanicus codex is going to be released in two halves a few months apart. Because of all this I’ve decided to stop buying every codex release (which I used to do because I enjoyed reading the rules and fluff) and now only buy the occasional one that I’m really interested in. Reading coments on any wargame related websites is making me depressed. For years people having been shouting for GW to release more stuff and release it faster. People have damned GW to the nine hells, for not updating “their” codex every 4 years.
Now that GW are releasing more stuff and faster, even releasing stuff people have been shouting for for decades, we get moans and damnations that it is too fast.
That is the internet for you. People complaning and pictures of cats.

Oh dear. There seem to be several fallacies in your comment. I’ve been on here for several years and I’ve never seen anyone ask for new codices more frequently. Most folks would be elated if they were only released every four years, instead of every two or one. And wouldn’t it be nice if they released those books as binders, so that folks could just replace the relevant pages to make their old edition a new edition, rather than soaking players time and again? I’ve never heard anyone asking for a once-a-year release cycle.
Love the new knight variants. I feel for folk who already bought the codex though. Oh dear. I knew I should have made this simpler. The idea behind selling binders with rules pages, as several companies do, is to reward players who are already invested in the game. They can remain current without a further numbing financial commitment a year down the road. With the release of a “revised” codex players would have the option of BUYING the edited pages pack, and remaining current… or of picking up the new binder in its entirety. Same pages, same content, so there would be no added printing expense — except for punching three holes in the sheet.… Read more »

If I might add: we have one former neophyte 40k player who ditched the system, but he said he did so reluctantly, as he would have had to admit that he pissed away a lot of cash on a system that didn’t work, and was nowhere near as good as what other companies produce. I think that admission keeps a lot of other people playing 40k, rather than admitting there’s better systems out there.

@warworksdk Who is to say that longevity is necessarily the plan for any business? If you look at the number of businesses that get set up with the intention of making a lot of money quickly, then shutting down or opening under another name then it is evident that longevity isn’t always the way to go. Why make your money over 10 years when you can make the same amount in 2? If you want to do more than just a few Kickstarters, you need some veterans to drive the game forward, to provide feedback, and to show the newbs how to play. Games Workshop very deliberately turned the veterans away, claiming that they were simply dead weight. The car analogy is equally ridiculous @lunchbox . I buy a new truck every three years when the warranty runs out, and the value left in my old truck goes over halfway toward financing my new truck. What’s your old codex worth, after it’s replaced in one year? As for computers: I usually get three or four years out of one before a game comes along that it won’t run. So what you’re saying is that you sell (or trade in) your car before it loses a large chunk of its value? Why not sell the codex a few months before a new one is due? Then it’s worth probably 60%+ of its purchase price. How much total money do you lose on that car? How much per year? You say you get 3 years out of a computer. How much do you lose on it (and the games you no longer want after 3 years? Compare that to the actual money lost on a codex, even if you throw… Read more »

Ripping them off with overpriced models and unnecessary rule-updates does not accomplish that. And ironically, Games Workshop is currently going bankrupt.
