Ok people let’s see what Darrell has to say about shooting with Machine Spirit and I think it’s safe to say that he like his Spirits.
Yep, Darrell is right. Just want to point out, that shooting and nominating targats does only takes place at the same time for one (1) unit. You dont have to declare the targets for all all your shooting units, before u start any dice rolls.
and a second snippet: here in germany people use the machine spirit after using smoke, at least as far as i am aware.
It says clearly in the Rulebook page 67, note above the Dedicated Transports insert: …”all units in a single unit fire simultaneously, so a squad cannot take out a trasnport and [...] then mow down the ocupants [...]“.
So there you go.
so where does it say that embarked troops have to shoot at the same target as the transport vehicle, as in orks in a truck or battle wagon.
It doesn’t, because they don’t. Troops embarked are considered a seperate unit and can shoot whoever they like.
This question isn’t the topic of this vid, don’t know why you are asking this. Nevertheless, it is like garwjenk said. Therulebook FAQ states, that embarked units count as a seperate firing unit, therefore they can fire at a different target AND at a different time.
You could destroy an enemy transport, with your transport and then shoot at the disembarked unit with your still embarked unit. GTA-drive-by-style.
take a deep breath and relax. i was just asking, cuz it’s kinda similar.
That’s not what we are discussing here, of course your transported unit can fire at any unit.
The thing is, if you haven’t seen the video, can you destroy a transport and then fire at its ocupants? The answer is NO. All units fire simultaneously, meaning all fire at the same time. Realistically it would be impossible to throw that many dice, so you do it one unit at a time. But this does not mean that your vehicle shoots first, and then your transported unit.
Darrell your right, and of course you cool as F*@^£)!!!!!!
Shouldnt let me at this ‘internet’ thing at this time of night!
Terribly sorry about that…..
Yea that is a perculiar one, but it does just boil down to the whole ‘targeting everything at the same time’ before shooting.
Power of the machine spirit is brilliant tho!
Darrell, you say that you can’t shoot at the embarked units because you cant see them, what if the transport was open topped? wouldn’t the heavy bolter targeting system (the guns eye view for the gunner) be able to see the passengers and therefore shoot at them?
(not meaning to sound angry or displeased, just curious)
No, you still cannot shoot at passangers. It doesn’t matter, if the vehicle is open topped or not. This game is not a realistic simulation, it’s a an abstract game, designed to have a fun game for a couple of hours.
Yea, open topped just counts for shooting out of the vehicle really as far as targeting is concerned.
shame, it would be a good rule bend, imagine if you could hijack……..
Question about the PotMS then, can you fire with the PotMS after doing a flat out move? (Blood Angel StormRaven)
yes, you can. I can do a 12″ move with 1 of my landraiders and then fire 1 normal weapon thanks to PotMS and all defensive weapons, so I can’t see why you can’t do a flat out move and then fire 1 weapon and all defensive weapons. But at the club I play who will stay nameless they say that firing with PotMS is at a lower BS and i say that`s not true so who is correct?
In the last marine codex PotMS was at BS2 to represent the machine spirit taking over, now it just helps guide the gunners so its at standard BS
LOL, the new rule is out since 2 years (?) and within 3 Marine Codizes, how could your unnamed club miss THAT?
@Storm Raven PotMS: Depends on the wording. The common version I know is specifically written for the Land Raider and gives explizit examples for the LR. How it works for the Storm Raven should be explained in its description. Though, i have to admit, i didn’t evan know that the Storm Raven had the PotMS special rule.
The explanation for the PotMS on the StormRaven is exactly the same as for the Land Raider so I don’t really need to type down the wording here. So far our gaming club is running with that you can flat out and fire with PotMS. I guess I’ll have to contact GW about it, though they never answer.
Standard Land Raiders can’t move 12″ and fire 1 weapon + defensive. The PotMS only allows you to fire 1 weapon, not 1 weapon + defensive.
You can’t move more then 6″ and fire defensive weapons. You can only fire them when moving at combat speed.
unless your a fast vehicle, then you can move 12″ (cruising speed) and fire all weapons, another bonus of BA.
in addition to the last, BA Land Raiders could go flat out and fire 1 weapon. as i understand it, PotMS allows you to fire 1 more weapon than you would normally be able to fire, but all weapons can be fired at cruising speed, so the special rule comes into play when moving flat out.
The BA rules sayes that the macine spirit lets you fire one more weapon than normal, and it doesent need to target the same target as the rest of the veicle, this lets you try to pop a transpor whit your multi-melta before the rest of the weaponery on the veicle is brought to bear on the transported squad. But this only applies to thiongs whit macine spirit, so, it isent exacly game breaking stuff…
Right, never mind, after checking the big book (i blame 8th ed. fantasy for taking all my gaming time this year), i got to agree whit the assessment, but, PotM still is nice if you use it on a sponson that hasent line of sight, or on weapons you recon wont reach the target. Ive used it for that purpose for my Space Wolves. if you add a Hunter killer missile it could also be used to fire that at a seperatte target.
