Darrell has a look at how and why you would split your close combat attack when playing Warhammer 40K.
where does it says this in the rulebook because i want to be able to slap my opponent with the book when he says it’s an illegal move.
Thanks for another great video. I had this sticky yesterday against my brother who fielding his Grey Knight Paladins for the 2nd time. Little did I know that I was in a spot of bother trying to bring them down from 2 wounds! My vehicles were destroyed in Turn 1 and 2, leaving combat and Stern caught in the open (good dice rolls ALL round for my brother). It left me with lots of cover of my wrecked APCs etc. and only able to fight in close combat. However, got sucked into Draigo and Paladins with my Grand Master (portrayed by Lysander) and a squad of Assault Terminators. My brother then moved a 2nd P-Squad and sandwiched them… So my brother took a step back, as I’m still learning, to allow my to think my tactics of attacks. Needless to say, splitting my attacks was hard as only 2 Terminators and Lysander were able to attack due to the position of a wrecked APC and table-edge they drew me into.
My Terminators and Lysander fought LONG and HARD through 3 turns of close combat. The Terminators all fell eventually despite being backed up by my Vanguard which I threw behind the 2nd Paladin squad. Never has my brother seen multiple saves, especially one Vanguard, whom he split attacks on, survived 4 attacks. I lost the game and Lysander eventually fell, bringing Draigo to one wound, with my Terminators picking the Paladins off one by one, whereas my brother took a Terminator per every 20+ attacks. A great day for saves and once again my Vanguard were left standing.
NEVER has my brother been so annoyed (good-heartedly) that he just couldn’t finish me off in Turn 3, as he watched save after save after save in spite of how many dozens of powerful attacks were thrown at me.
Im curious too. From what I have understand you have to choose one unit to attack in close combat and everyone in your squad had to attack the same unit.
As the rule book states that you must attack models you are in base to base contact with this will only apply to models that are either in base to base with two units or if they are in base to base with no one.
i used this in my last game when someone attached an independant character to a rather strong unit. I use Dark Eldar Reavers only with the hope that I will use the cluster caltrops and the bladevanes, when i ran over the unit I dedicated well over half of the hit rolls to the character and just ravaged him, got me a kill point and weakened the other unit too!
You can ONLY split your attacks when you’re assaulting. Cluster Caltrops and Bladevanes aren’t an assault. You’re attacking the whole unit with the IC attached and the defender gets to assign wounds/saves as with a shooting attack.
Yes indeed a very quick 2 turns it was for my knights however you storm shields did hold the line well. Maybe the rolls won’t be so lucky next time – you luck will run out soon lol
Great game bro – look forward to the next
plenty of this multiple combat video happened in this recent match up
