Games Workshop have just launched images of their new Dark Eldar models… feast your eyes all you players of Naughty Elves!
Some horrific looking stuff there… horrific in a good way you understand.
wow… If only GW wouldn’t be acting like their plastic is made of pure gold.
Amazingly, the Dark Eldar range is not only (IMO) the best looking line GW currently makes, but one of the cheapest (on a model per model basis).
Scourges, at $25 ($5 per model) are cheaper then either Grey Knight Interceptors ($33.00, over $6 each), Space Marine Assault Squad box ($29.75, almost $6 each) or Vanguard Vets ($41.25, over $8 each).
Compare the new Talos/Chronos kit ($44.50) with the Ironclad Dreadnought ($44.50); while the price is the same, the DE kit seems to be quite a step above in terms of both sculpt and, of course, can be used to make two different units.
Same deal with the Venom ($30.00) compared to a Drop Pod ($33.00), Rhino/Razorback box ($35.00), Land Speeder Storm ($30) or Eldar Viper Jetbike ($30.00); cheaper or the same price as a lot of similar function/size kits.
Just about the only parts of the DE line that aren’t good buys (by the standards of GW, that is) are the metals. All of the plastic kits for the DE are both incredible looking and very aggressively priced compared to other, equivalent plastic kits. Foe example, the warrior/wyche boxes have 10 models for $24.75; much cheaper then Space marine Tactical squads at 10 models for $37.25, or Dire Avengers/Guardians for $33.00.
The only explanation I have for this pricing is that the DE have traditionally had a very small player base, so when GW went through the effort to relaunch them, they priced them aggressively. After all, this is the most complete relaunch I think any army has ever had.
Venom seems like conversion from the vyper
But man those Talos and Cronos look just great.
I have been really reluctant to start any new GW army recently (prices are extortionate and their new releases IMO have been below par) but i always said to myself that if i was gonna start another army after i finish my Death Guard CSM’s it would be DE. That was until the ’2nd wave’ release of models for this range came out and were hugely dissapointing (Staticly posed Succubus? poor Beast Master sculpt? average looking beasts?).
However, this new wave of releases has really got me paying attention again. The Talos and Cronos models are superb! I like the Scourges alot too! My plan is to build a themed army based on a Haemonculus Coven with a ‘Sick Circus’ theme so I am still gonna wait until they release the required models (wracks, grotesques, etc). However, i have always planned to have pain engines in the force so doing a DE army is looking like an exciting prospect again right now. My wallet will be sad tho!
I remember a time when i would purchase something from GW every week, sometimes every day. Now i gotta look at a new army as a ‘financial investment’! Whats wrong with this picture peoplez!?!?!?!?!
I completely agree, and I think crovax20 has the right idea, Some guy in marketing must have confused gold prices with that of plastic. and I mean good gold, like the 99.9% pure gold stuff those Canadians make… Damn Canadians… : )
Looks good… but…. It didn’t overly impress me.. i guess I’m picky… The Venom looks nice but is WAY too small In my opinion. Even if its transport capacity is 5. Plus its lacking a good holding pen for the passengers. If my Incubi will be riding that thing, What are they going to hold onto when moving at super speeds? The Scourges though Look AMAZING.
The pain engines… I dunno.. they look too fleshy for my liking.. I liked the older one, I was hoping for something similar but re done.. Its a beautiful model don’t get me wrong. but Its really going to depend on the look of the wracks/Grotesques for me to see if they will stick out badly like the Dreadknight does. It looks more like a Warmachine Warjack than a GW model.
I hope that Venom is going to have a counter part for Craftworlds. Jes Goodwin said he did CWE bikes alongside the DE so they might come out at some point.
Man, GW actually gave us the models we want, in the best possible way! I’ll be picking up a Venom! Some of the best GW releases I’ve seen in a long while!
The two engines are stunning models, I’ve been a bit underwhelmed with the Tomb Kings sculpts I’ve seen so far , and indeed a lot of the Grey Knights stuff, but these are on a different level.
They really can make some great stuff when they put their minds to it.
Don’t forget about the Razorwing Fighter:
One problem… no vectm or any Characters and no Grotesques or Wracks.
I think the razorwing, grotesques, wracks and homunculi will come out two weeks after the stuff on the site now. At least that is what I keep hearing through the grapevine.
There’s still another batch of DE models pencilled for June 24th, Wracks and Grotesques are too big to leave out.
Aw crud! now i really have to start Dark Eldar.
They really are excellent models and if they keep up the slight price drop on the newer minis it would be a great thing
Not to shabby.
Not sure why GW are dragging there heals on the 2nd wave of tyranids models.
Damn… I don’t really like GW minis… I think they’re usually crude and unimpressive. The Grey Knights weren’t very good IMHO, as teh sculpting goes… But these guys… First the tomb kings sphinx, then this… Okay, I’m impressed !
Yeah I think they look brilliant well done GW. I want to collect them now!
Wow so that is what a tyranofex looks like! and the new tervogon in a double kit! Im so glad I waited and now I can’t wait for the other Dark Eldar models!
The Dark Eldar stuff is awesome, The only thing I like less are the Scourges, the wings look a bit odd
So the battleforce will have 10 Kabalite Warriors 10 Wyches 3 Reaver Jetbikes 1 Raider? Why the hell did DE players have to wait till the second wave for a box full of stuff from the first wave?
I like the new scourges a lot though, like swooping hawks on LSD.
Nice, but when is the ‘NID SECOND WAVE?! Have they forgotten about us?
We’ve been lost to a warp storm.
I really like them, the Scourges are beautiful & the Pain Engines rock.
@cazboab: DE players had to wait so GW could make more money by capitalising on the first wave release & innevitable initial hype, which is why I would always wait 6 months before starting to buy a new army & to see what the 2nd wave would bring…unless I was collecting Nids or Space Wolves of course
Great job GW but just two things before I could start my DE army: Where the hell are my Wracks & Grotesques?!
If they could breathe new life into their rules like they’ve done to the dark eldar mini range I would be proud to start playing 40k again. Some of the updates these models have received is nothing short of triumphant.
damn…. this last picture looks amazing! i have an idea for a chaos dreadnought^^ some bits and bob here, some bits and bobs there… looks really nice!
sorry for doubble post… forgot to ad: the deamon looking wings of this jumping guys, also very very nice… i guess its converting time again ^^
@ bradur …… Im guessing you are thinking pain engine / chaos dreadnaught conversion for a Fabius Bile CSM themed army? If not then im nicking the idea! LOL!
a themed army for Fabius Bile ? hmm… sounds nice… but not only a themed army for Fabius Bile. if you use the right bits, you are able to make a dreadnought for any legion. maybe not legal for the tournaments, but to play with your buddys.
and yes, i thought about the pain engine for the conversion ^^ a question for understanding: what does “If not then im nicking the idea!” mean? especially “nicking”? im german, and quite a long time out of school, so excuse my bad english ;(
Ok, when the hell did the Strogg from Quake 2 & 4 assimilate the Dark Elder LOL?, Tell ya the Pain and parasite remind me so much of the Strogg from the quake series. They are awesome models, come on GW why can’t you give us a chaos dreadie of that quality pleeeeasse? any idea of price
i reckon next wave will include: Wracks Grotesques Haemonculi Razorwing Jetfighter/Voidraven Bomber (same kit) Asdrubael Vect and another Special Character.
