I think it’s a bit better than you guys say. Not a lot but a bit. Some things to try: Endurance ie It will not die on a vehicle (Land Raider), regain those hull points. Weakness Vs Ork’s Terminator Librarian with a blunt force weapon (Str 6) Vs Boyz, casts weakness on them. He strikes in initiative, is wounded on a 6 but the Orks and if the Nob challenges he instant kills him before he strikes. Weakness vs guard Wound on 2′s with bolters. Instant death on guard characters with normal space marine attacks. Iron Arm on Mephiston, The increased strength and tougness are OK but eternal warrior means he can figh against massed or high strength force weapons. Endurance on a unit of multi melta devastators in a Drop pod. Endurance on Ogryns, yes Ogryns. Endurance on units led by big characters at the front.
Last but not least against a horde of nids or guard: Weakness + Haemorrage will kill a large number of T2 guys in cover (but this is hard to set up, it’ll work once).
i quite often use my psykers as character hunters or hunting other multi-wound annoyances my biker libraian has a lot of fun with this list although i have to say i think nids benefit the most (eternal warrior on a tyrant is a pain i hope people dont suffer too often)
Nids love biomancy
“Does anybody build their psykers to fight” … Tyranids? ever heard of a Hive Tyrant? the Swarmlord? Tervigons? Broodlords? Biomancy is quite possibly the best thing that has happened to Tyranids since 4th edition.
I do use my Space Marine Librarian as a character killer too. The chance to cause instant death on a multi-wound character is just something you must consider. I give my Librarian a terminator armor and stick him with my terminators… I’m not a tournament player but I think this is a viable technique.
I still prefer the psychic powers in the codex but biomancy is not that bad, I think…

You guys are totally right about one thing: since when has a game about tactics and strategy become more fun the moment everything (and in this edition I have to say literally EVERYTHING) is decided by dice? Starting with what your units can do? So now when you take a psyker you have to roll, to see which powers he gets. Really??? That doesn’t even make sense on a fluff level. If you go into war, you take the guy, who has learned the useful stuff. Does that make you stronger? Of course, but that’s what point costs are for. So don’t apologize for harping on about all the hoops psykers have to jump through nowadays, because it’s a festering pile of steaming crap!!! Also for me as a Tyranid player I have to say, that GW really kicked my bugs in the balls when they said in the FAQ, that if I roll a witchfire power for my Broodlord, which he can’t use, since he’s BS0, he cannot re-roll it. When I read that, I went straight to my gaming club with it, and we decided, that from that point onwards, we would be choosing our powers and not be rolling for them. And you know what? That alone (together with a little house rule to make the Lictor useful again) and I started winning games again. Not too many, but games are fun again, since I haven’t the impression all the time, that I have to work around my own codex to win anything. Sorry for the rant, but this type of stuff just gets me going. Peace Out.
