Gav and Kev get their hands on the Tempest Blazers for Cygnar, but will these horse riding, pistol carrying, masters of the gun float their boat?
So … these are fat horses, then? Somehow that’s the impression I’m getting. Between the lines, like.
Maybe the sculptor likes cows but wasn’t allowed…
Wargaming needs more cow riders. I’ve high hopes they will be GW’s big gimmick for the forthcoming Dwarf book.
Dwarven cows, could catch on.
Big boned perhaps?
Warmachine seems to be becoming a stylistic mishmash… who are these for, Sleepy Hollow fans?
Justin – “We’re running low on videos, Warren. What should we post?” Warren – “Bring out…” (looks at camera) “…the fat horses unboxing. And may god have mercy on our souls.”
Are the horses…. anatomicaly correct?
Anatomically correct ? Not by a mile… However, they do have genitalia sculpted on.
I don’t know a lot about Warmachine, but the impression I’m getting is; great game, crap minis. Is that a fair impression?
Oooo, that’s why it’s “better” value for money
Well to be fair deaddave, I’m sure there are many wargamers who only care about the game. If the game is amazing, they don’t care if the minis are terrible. On the other hand, there are people like me who are all about the minis and the fluff and don’t really mind if the game is a bit ropey.
Fluff all the way, although the one thing and only I actually like about warmachine over 40k is that they are advancing the storyline and reflecting it in the rules.
That’s true and to stay off topic for a bit longer, that’s why I’m torn between 40k and 30k. Horus Heresy has the advancing story line like you say, but I find the 40k setting more interesting.
theres a lot of fab models… equally a lot of pants ones these horses are probably they’re biggest mistakes. Generally considered to be gorgeous models are Harbinger of menoth, Sybll looks like she will be beautiful, arcane tempest gun mages are nice alot of the circle models are stunning. Game is nice tight ruleset but geared towards tournament gaming in my view really enjoy it now but was a hard set to really break into.
Warmachine has been weird…
They’ve upped their prices just like GW (pretty much), but the release schedule is much better assorted, and you don’t need as many miniatures to play. The game itself, I won’t argue about : to each his own. Some people don’t like cards…
The quality of the miniatures (and casting) started out pretty low, but there was a time where they could do no wrong, right after that : detailed miniatures, no more casting problems, and they started doing great restic pieces too with amazing details.
Lately, however, the releases (restic included) have been extremely uneven. Some are genuinely great, while others are lazy and not very well done (like those horses… or some of the Cyriss range… or their terrible habit of repeating sculpts in unit boxes).
This is a range that I don’t feel as much need to collect as others anymore, even though they do have some superb pieces.
I agree with EVERY word you typed and I’m thankful I’m not alone. As much as I love to spew vitriol towards GW, their models are sooooo much better that PP’s, with exceptions. I’m sick of PP’s repeat models, their mold lines, their terrible-priced large models (Colossals, Gargantuans), their significant lack of bits. I’ve got cases of bits leftover from GW models, enough to build oodles of terrain and conversions.
I wouldn’t say GW models are better… Some of them are apalling, especially the rank and file. Besides, Failcast has had issues of their own… and the casting problems PP faced are gone, now.
I’ve compared the level of detail of the colossals with the big plastic GW beasties, and quite frankly, you get better miniatures from PP, IMHO. Same thing with most of the solos, and even most of the units, even though GW generally has the advnatage of poseability over the dreadful PP repeat sculpts…
However, both companies suffer from the other’s competition, and their prices are too high… especially for the bigger stuff !
I’d probably agree with some of what you’re saying but the minute you said “failcast”, I stopped taking you seriously.
I got the Ork Stompa for my birthday once ($110 at the time). Huuuuge model, loads of cool details, and tons of bits left over. What a joy for this painter! For my money, the PP colossals don’t approach that level of detail and value-from a painter and modeller’s perspective, in other words, THIS guy. I bought a Trollblood wagon on sale. Both beasts pulling the wagon are the same, model is smallish, no bits and only a handful of crisp details. Currently this model sells in Canada for $90 plus tax. Would never pay that much. Mind you, I pretty much paint what I think looks good, not because I need it for the game.
Been really looking forward to this unboxing bit short for my liking but nice to have a closer view of the models will be the first models i purchase for my cygnar after caine and a pair of jacks.
Horses so fat they tool eleven months to get in front of the camera!
Cygnar must just over feed their horses. Protectorate and Khador horses look a bit more fit. ^Yes that was a joke.
I have been away from Warmachine for a while as it just fizzled out for a good few years at my flgc.
It is now making a comeback and I like the idea of gun mage cav, so a box of these will find its way to me at some point ( fat horses or not ).
That sculpting is awful. I spend my life around horses but anyone could see that just isn’t right. The back half of the horse looks correct then the front limbs are in the wrong place and the neck is just wtf.
