Andy & Darrell take a look at some of the choices you have for expanding your 2-player Warmachine Starter Set… today they take a look at Khador.
the best advice I can give, before you assemble your battlebox warjacks, buy another standard plastic heavy jack and magnetise the lot, that way you have 3 heavies, can go allout shooting (2 destroyers and a decimator) all out combat (2 juggernaughts and a marauder) or a combination of the 2
thinking of starting khador and warmachine at that kell bailoch which model comes with his rules or is he in the khaodr book and you just use a widowmaker for him i cant find the model
Kell Bailock is a Mercenary… he’s in the Mercenaries book… but as with all Warmachine models he comes with his rules when you get the model.
when should we expect the video for the Menoth section of the 2 player box?
also what do you think of battle mechaniks
My Legion of Everblight army ran into Vlad a few weeks ago, er, should I say, Vlad ran into me. Yeah, not much left. He’s a really good warcaster and someone you might want to consider.
Shoulder pads=win in the Iron kingdoms
Destroyer is terrible, Juggernaught is terrible, Sorsha is terrible. I bought the battlebox for khador a month before they announced this set. Damn, im really angry with it. The battleboxes were based on what overstock PP had. Khador needs kodiaks or spriggans for their main melee / ranged jacks. Each of these jacks actually come with some kind of special ability and with the same stats (Spriggran has 1 less DEF) as the base jacks. I cant express my disappointment with the khador selection in the 2 player battlebox.
I cant agree- each to their own I suppose. The battlebox is excellent, the spriggan its true is super awesome (with the right caster) but it costs loads of points. Id rather a caster and 2 jacks vs caster and a single spriggan
The 2 player set is also made with basic rules vs some of the really tricky combos which are more powerful. Plus the models look cool and that whats draws you in at first…then you seek the cheese
I respectfully disagree….it’s more down to play styles. I ran a list at UK Masters last year using Sorscha and it got me 2 wins to 1 loss in the games I played and was acknowledged by my club as being hard to beat.
You can make Destroyers and Juggernauts good…. Destroyers belong with either Harkevich or Karchev. Harkevich gives them Broadside (for 2 shots a turn) and his feat (they can shoot before charging). Karchev can trample up to 9″ and using Tow still have the Destroyers he has with him aim for +2 RAT. This can give you a surprising assassination run against warcaster who spend all their focus and charge forward due to the bombard’s arcing fire.
Juggernauts go with Karchev or Butcher. Karchev for Unearthly Rage, Butcher for Full Throttle. Absolute evil for 7 points, I recently ran an army with three in that gave people headaches.
I have no idea *what* you’re doing to make Juggies and Destroyers bad. They are *very* solid choices for ‘jacks.
The spriggan outperfroms the destroyer in ranged and the kodiak is a better melee ‘jack. Lets look at the Juggy first. Normal stat line for a heavy jack. It gets open fist and crit freeze. The open fist is great, and the crit freeze is situational at best. For one more point, you can get a Kodiak that hast he same stat line, same damage boxes, but you get Pathfinder (awesome jacks are already hella slow), Vent steam, which gives you an awesome anti infantry attack and TWO open fists for the epic double fisted throw. For one point the jacks shouldnt be so much more powerful.
Now lets look at Destroyer vs Spriggan. Once more, for one more point, you get way MORE. You get TWO ranged AOEs, bulldoze (which this is a ranged jack, but can perform just as well in melee if it HAS to), Reach, and i forgot to mention the AOEs have utility in the form of being able to ignore Stealth (die eiryss).
I didnt mean to be so “negative.” both are good jacks, but i think that Khador has alot better choices for jacks then the default two. Juggy and Destroyer are too plain jane for me to use over the wide array of “better” for the point cost heavies.
Ah, see, when you said they were terrible, I thought you meant that they were *terrible*, which they simply aren’t.
The thing you have to understand, however, is that the Spriggan and the Kodiak in no way belong in a starter box. The Juggernaut and the Destroyer are perfect for a starter because they’re rules-light, while giving you a taste of everything that jacks can do, give you a good feel for what Khador is all about, all the while still being decent enough for you to continue using them for a long time.
Remember, starter sets aren’t made to be optimized armies, they’re made to be *learning* armies.
i need to tell my lil elitist voice in my head to stfu sometimes. You do have a point.
I’ve stuck with Sorscha for now (cos I’m still painting the Exemplars and man-o-wars…) and added 5 man-o-war bombardiers(I don’t care how effective they actually are they have a rocket launcher chainsaw, they’re the best unit in the army…) and a 6 strong winter guard to bring it out to 35 points, for 25 I probably would swap sorcha out for butcher and build a list were everything has as many axes as possible to just wade in and commit wanton acts of violence.
another possible use is saving the Juggernaut and destroyer to some of the character jack models.
I bought epic Irusk to replace Sorscha as I thought the model looked cool. Jeez it was hard to put together. He doens’t really seem to synergise with the battle box army though. What would people reccomend? I hear that lots of man-o-war troops are good as you can hide demo corps behind a shield wall, move them forward for their attack, then use energiser to move them back again.
i’ve inceased my khador starter army to 25 pts by including a war hound and man o war kovnick (i have kovnick running the destroyer to free up some of sorcha’s focus). my nxt buys i was gona get the butcher and a full winter guard unit w/ some rocket launchers + w/ UA + kovnick joe. what do people think of my choice?
Butcher with the Winterguard+UA+Kovnik is slightly evil. Big unit with Iron Flesh on Bobbing and weaving….so that’s Def 17 with either tough and fearless OR boosted to hit CRAs/Sprays (and sprays are god).
The next casters you want: pIrusk (Iron Flesh, great feat, Superiority, Battle Lust) pVlad (Boosts your troops, makes your jacks faster with the feat, will kill almost any caster with Blood of Kings active) pButcher (Iron Flesh, hits like a truck, simple feat, Full Throttle)
The next Jacks you want: Behemoth (Two P+S14 fists that half the armour of whatever they hit, two bombards form the destroyer, armour 21, 3 Damage boxes) Beast (Runs for free, has Reach, works well with Sorscha, has Thresher, can spend 1 focus to boost ALL Melee attacks against living models)
The next units you want: Winterguard Infantry + Standard (Bob and weave + sprays) Kayazy Assassins (Def 16 against melee attacks, stealthy, ignore free strikes, with the UA you can charge through other moedels)
As Khador player I can say that this was great video. Well done Andy.
Thanks for the video Andy very informative. looking at buying some of these but finding it hard to find anyone with stock in the uk.
try gifts for geeks in Leicester they have lots of stock and are very well priced
I replaced Sorscha with The Butcher, added demo corps, widow makers and a War Dog and replaced the Destroyer with a Kodiak. Thus making it a tier 2 theme list.
Served me well so far.
As for the hate towards Sorscha… i can agree that it doesn’t have much of an impact. But the feat allows you;
-To force your opponent to use their focus to unfreeze their ‘jacks (and him/herself), thus not being able to cast certain spells.
but the real winner is;
-Units will be useless for one turn. So you can hit them easily, wether it’s shooting or combat. And considering that most of my opponents so far run more infantry than ‘jacks, the only defence the opposing caster has the ‘jacks.
So the feat creates the window of opportunity to win games, it’s an end game feat. It’s only rubbish if you pop the feat just to make a target easier to hit.
andy what do you think of battle mechaniks if i am running 3 (maybe even FOUR) warjacks
ok andy i had an idea for all the shooting i need does a widowmaker unit with a solo marksman and kell bailoch (6 modles in all) sound good or is it overkill
and as a final question are tyorch and black ivan worth getting
P.S. you should really get an edit button for peoples comments
Mechs: If the points can balance out to max them out then yes (they will be shot at, or in the worst case scenario, caught up in blasts.)
Black Ivan: Depends on your Warcaster. Black Ivan works extremely well with Harkevich (hence the affinity, which makes it easier to hit things and then you can spend the focus to boost up to 3 damage rolls, presuming you shot at a unit or a ‘jack with a lot of friends nearby). And to be honest, if you are going shooty, Harkevich is your guy!
From what i’ve seen so far, BI can go all out in combat with The Butcher reaching up to a massive 6 damage dice (not that you would ever need 6 dice, unless you want to send a clear message across to only the biggest beast/’jack!)
Torch: if you are going shooty, the decimator is a better option, it’s gun is made for getting rid of beasts and ‘jacks (the heavier the better, because of their low DEF), and it’s 1 point cheaper.
so upshot of that was battle mechaniks are good black ivan i still dotn know you only said good with harkevich and torch is bad (i am running butcher since i hear so much good things about him) so is black ivan good with butcher and how many warjacks should i be running i thought 3 but what about 4?
How many points are you running?
Great Video, Forgive me for going left field here but I gotta go here… How many gamers want to see PP come out with a 2 player set that has a Warmachine Army against a Horde one. Dare I ask what 2 would People like to see in the set= LOL
warmahordes starter 2 force: not PoM, Khadhor and whatever ends up in an Hordes set- plus as I have Trolls also no trolls so for me pick from cryx/cygnar vs legion/circle/skorne
mmm….maybe mercs vs minions
