Gates Of Antares Previews With Algoryn & Concord Strikers

Some more previews have come out of Warlord Games for Beyond the Gates of Antares. This time around the focus is back onto the Algoryn with some awesome painted command squad miniatures alongside a selection of new renders for the Concord...
First thing we'll take a look at is the Algoryn themselves and I do like these fellows. I think the miniatures look all the more awesome when they're not wearing helmets too but the ones they have here do look alright. I usually think that the helmets get lost amongst the other parts of armour but with the right paint job I think it works. A very cool commander.
The new renders come in the form of the Concord Strike Troopers who are the human element of Beyond the Gates of Antares. Once again some neat designs and it's good to see that everything is proceeding at a rapid pace with this game. I can't imagine it will be long until we start seeing these units pop up on the tabletop properly.

Over all these are rather good.
Whilst I do hope this game gets released, I have to say that the sculpt do look a bit of a budget range of miniatures. If this is what they are going for, cheap miniatures, then I think they are suitable. My only reservation is that with the likes of other companies that fulfil the scifi genre, these are not up to their standard imho, as these sculpts are mainly basic shapes rather than containing dynamic detail. I do wish the guys luck with GoA and I hope it goes from strength to strength. 🙂
I think it’s getting harder to stand out in the scifi genre as more and more companies are able to get into the action with KS etc. I’d really like to see GoA promote the development if the Rick Priestly rule set and universe, as well as the evolving nature of the narrative based on community interaction – esp since it was essentially this former factor that let them get to over 100k on KS without any real product to speak of 🙂
I tend to agree…I’ve got cool Sci-fi miniatures in spades!…what I need now is a good set of rules to play them with. I’ll be interested to see what this set is like…that delicate balance between interesting and detailed game play and something simple enough to play a whole game on a club night is a very difficult thing to find these days!

It’s pretty hard to shine when you’ve got Infinity for competition! I like these better than the last bunch, but nothing about them stands out for me. Of course, if they are cheap, then they may be worth picking up.
Well yes, but they seem to be going for the “scifi soldiers” market, not “tits&ass with occasional scifi equipment” market Infinity has cornered.
As much as I admire the inarguable technical excellence of infinity sculpts, the factions they represent do all seem to have this unfortunate requirement that all the female applicants to their military forces should list ‘swimsuit model’ somewhere on their CV and wear… lets just call them ‘uniforms’ for convenience (it sure as heck couldn’t be called body armour since that normally needs to cover more than 25% of one’s body) – approriate to their prior emplyment history. they are fine design wise imo, just they refuse to pose them to look like soldiers in combat 😛
Sorry, but I don’t care how cheap they are. I wouldn’t want minis I don’t like even if they were free. These are decidedly mediocre. There are several companies making much better sci fi minis than these.

I rather like those minis. The Algoryn command squad are my favourite Algoryn units released so far, and the Concord has beeen my faction oif choice ever since I first heard of them, so another step closer to Concord Strike Trooper minis is always welcome.
Nothing wrong with those minis for me. Maybe they do not stand out but they are not bad either.
I would like to know what these minis are going to be made out if. If it’s hard plastic the poses might be easy to get around.
… hmm, the shoulders look a bit low, they might need to adjust that a bit ?
quite like the design of the helmets though, some interesting ideas there …
the red ones look the best of the two I think 🙂

has a very similar style to the facial features …
@Golgothi They are made in white metal; the only non-metal in the range so far are the Limited Ed Hansa and Mhagris figures. Personally I don’t think the renders do them justice as the level of detail on these is excellent, in particular the faces and undersuits. Having just cleaned up several units of Boromites and three Algoryn teams the sharpness of the detailing and in particular the edging of the armour, weapons and panel lines is excellent. I like these but dislike the Bolt Action rules system, so I’m building my own rules system for use with these and other 25/28mm models. ^_^
