Warlord Launches Beyond The Gates Of Antares Website

Warlord Games is ramping up for the big release of the their new Sci-Fi miniatures game Beyond the Gates of Antares with the release of a new website dedicated to the game called IMtel.
On the site which is well done is if I may say, they have divided it up into an introduction of the factions, game play and the products page. They are really raising the ante for this game and trying level it up with other big sci-fi games.
Just as a reminder, that this game uses a similar order die mechanic as Bolt Action but with some major differences.
Lastly, right now up to the day of release for Beyond the Gates of Antares, if you pre-order the starter set The Xilos Horizon you will get some nice freebies, but you better hurry as some of the items might not be available much longer!

I’m thinking about picking up the rules for playing with 40K stuff. Unfortunately I haven’t seen anything from the Antares ranges that does nything for me….yet.
I’m a fan of the Freeborn and the Algoryn myself. Not so much the other factions, although the Ghar battlesuits are nice. I’m planning on picking this up mostly because the rules are by Rick Priestley, plus 40k is just getting too unwieldy these days. It would be nice to return to just couple of squads, a walker or two and a vehicle. I mean seriously, if I wanted to play Epic I’d buy that instead, at least I would had GW not decided to cancel the line (which is a damn shame because I actually wouldn’t mind giving Epic… Read more »
I’m in a similar boat. Looking for a modern and elegant rules system to replace 40K, love what I’ve seen of Bolt Action and very much like what I’ve seen of Antares so far. Very little in the Antares range has jumped out at me so far, but it’s growing on me. I’ll give it a second chance once it’s released and I can see the models in the flesh. I have to admit the price of the metals is the only thing that’s held me back so far. The Starter set is a pretty good deal compared to the forces available on the website, but kinda unfortunately timed. I almost jumped on the Warpath kickstarter instead of this.
I know what you mean! I’ve pre-ordered the starter set – I was always going to buy the rules when they came out, and the plastics look decent and decently priced. Whether I take it any further with Antares miniatures will probably depend on what happens next: how much other stuff they do in plastic, whether they do any better deals for the metals and, inevitably, if I get sucked in first by a good game and secondly by gradually becoming more familiar with the figures.

A nicely designed website. I have already pre-ordered my copy of the starter set, and I have my eye on the Concord as my faction of choice.
This game really has some things going for me – Most importantly, rules are development of Bolt Action (a great set of rules) – Miniatures that aren’t OTT. For the most part (apart from comedic Ghar, which I think you need a bit to lighten the mood) they look like a ‘hard’ sci-fi. Nothing that looks like it should be firing plastic missiles. – A decent number of miniatures on the board for a platoon-level combat. – Background, sounds like something from Iain M Banks ‘Culture’ series which I love! I agree with your points, especially with regard to the background having a Ian M. Banks, hard(er) science fiction feel to it, and the models being a bit more restrained. I know a lot of people think they are too bland, and the Concord in particular come in for some flack for it, but one of the reasons I like this game (and especially the Concord) is that the factions look reasonably credible as a vision of soldiery of the far future. I’ve been playing Antares for a while now, and am exceedingly excited for this starter set. I’ve been lucky enough to see the pre print version of the rules wilst up at Warlord a few weeks ago and it’s very, very nice, and I’ve also built both the plastic Ghar and Concord sets, and both are excellent, the pics don’t do the models justice!
I pre-ordered. The limited edition Ghar commander out of his battle suit and the terrain piece pushed me over on whether or not to do that. I really like warlord games, love bolt action as a rule set and have been following the rules evolution of this game for a bit and it seems like a real solid game. I hope the price of their metal sets come down soon to something a bit more reasonable, but I like the quality that I am seeing from them.
